Each year  Expeditioners at Australian Antarctic Bases celebrate the winter solstice with a day off work and a magnificent meal. Those who have returned from Antarctica (and the Sub Antarctic Islands of Macquarie and Heard )also continue to gather for the annual dinner. Midwinter has been celebrated since the early days of the Australian Governments establishment of bases in Antarctica. Members of the ANARE Club (Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions) organize gatherings in most capital cities in Australia.

Are there any Grey Nomads who have been to Antarctica either as a tourist or an Expeditioner? It would be good to have a Grey Nomad Midwinter Celebration one year.
