Ants in the car

We have many solutions for flies, mossies and their pesky, irritating friends, but how do you keep the ants away.  We had them in the relay system of the car and could not start it, and RACQ came to went straight to the relay and solved it with a spray of surface spray. ..... Very common apparently in this part of the country and we were the 2nd callout for road service in the morning at the van park ...That was at Normanton ... Today at Croydon we found them in the windscreen water reservoir.  We regularly hit the inside of the car with insect spray and put talcum around all the contacts with the ground on both the car and van ... the powder works great with the van but they seem to play doggo in the car and surface just when you want the car to start .... Any ideas???  Needless to say we now go ant hunting in the car and van daily .....

Ouch! Ants in the pants.

I had a similar problem in the old Prado and set off one of those bug bombs with one window open about 10mm. Worked a treat and no more ants in the pants.

Ant sand works very well, buy it at the hardware store or supermarket several brands and all have the same ingredients, but one is much cheaper than the others it doesn't just deter them it kills them fairly fast and works well on the ground around your van or car.
Works very well getting rid of ants in the car as you can sprinkle it all over the car and in areas where you see ants running around and when it has done its job you can hose it off or vacuum it up
We have been in places where you could not sit outside because ants would start crawling all over your legs put the ant sand down and the area was soon clear of all ants, if it rains you need to renew as it gets washed away, now carry a container with us in the van.
The brand we use is Hovex Ant Killer it is much cheaper than Mortein Ant Sand.
Cheers
David

I heard about this in Katherine a few yrs back, the service guy recond that the ants could pick out a ford in a line of cars. LOL.

How much longer are you there for? we are at Rocky creek for a couple of nights, move on tomorrow maybe Archer Creek before heading across.

For ants that nest behind panels inside cars or RV's use some ant liquid killer in the cap of a milk bottle or similar and place near where they are active.   Good to get rid of those that aren't easy to get to...

Had a big nest in the front of the MH last week....a few drops of Combat Ant-Rid (purchase from Coles etc in a 50 ml squeeze bottle) around the area and they feed on it like ducks take to water and after a couple of days putting the drops each day not a sign. Second time in 12 months that we have had a nest and used the above both times and ants gone in a couple of days. Hope this gets rid of the pests

Hi JC ... Here at Croydon until Saturday and then will head for Georgetown and then possibly,to,Atherton before the coast ....  Where is Archer and Rocky Creeks .... Could not find on WikiCamps?

.... me thinks we will be following your dust  but hopefully will catch up sooner or later .. .... We hope to be near Cairns by end of month as we are expecting a new family member to arrive in Cairns Hospital. We will probably head south via an inland route rather than the Bruce Highway ....  May spend some time,at Theresa Creek and Wuruma Dam also .... Still deciding And investigating free camp options with at least toilet as we are not self contained at this time...... keep us updated as you go ....

Regards ants, bear in mind some fall off tree branches onto the roof and awnings of vehicles/RV's when the wind blows, also not a good idea to have branches touching the roof/awning etc when parked up.

I call them "paratroop ants".....

Rocky Creek war memorial is just east of Atherton & Archer Creek is just West of Ravenshoe; both on the main rd & are both in WikiCamps.

Will leave Rocky creek friday at the latest, we are heading towards you so will have to pass some where.

Hope to meet up again with KFT, they will be comming throught around the weekend from Charters Towers & will be travelling towards us as well so maybe Archer Creek.

Check when you pass through for a dual cab Iveco with a c/van.
