Just done a trip down to perth and back to broome, 4500km basicly non stop each way apart from a few hrs well earnd rest.
The point of my post is that all standard "P" rest areas were crowded with road trains to the point I could find parking for just vehicle without blocking them in, fair enough they are regulated to stop.
The "P" for trucks ONLY were mostly vacant apart from the odd one that had wide loads so that is the place I decided to get my much needed sleep.
So for me from now one wont just look for a designated parking spot, it will be any where I decide without interfering with others.
I know others have posted the woys of this but when the boot is on the other foot
Must also say that driving at night (I love this) there is 99% professional drivers on the road and the company is good
We once stopped at a truck rest area (also for others) and obviously one truckie wasn't happy. He parked about 12 inches from our van when he came in that night - even though he had plenty of room to park elsewhere.
The thing that frustrates us is the cars parking in designated caravan/trailer spaces. At one particular rest area, the van spaces are marked in one long line. If a car parks in the middle of this strip it makes it very difficult for a car/caravan to park. Very frustrating when there are plenty of 'nose in' angled parks for cars.

Trucks also need to leave room for other trucks and for that reason they will park right beside you IF you are in the flow area....
As some of us have said just try to park out of the way so as not to impede the flow of other traffic.. I have been totally blown away by the number of truck that pull into a rest area overnight, some for a short stay and others for a longer stay but ALL of them move on as quickly as they can..
