Rippling Effect

smilesmileOccasionally whilst i am towing my pop top on concrete roads the Colorado feels like i am driving over ripple strips, this funnily enough doesn't happen all the time and it is not noticeable on other type roads.I am running Bridgestone A/T 245/70R16 on the Colorado and Maxway 215/70R15 on the pop top.has anybody got any thoughts on what may be causing this?your comments will be appreciated, thanks.

Hi Subaru,

I have had similar experiences and I'm pretty sure ( almost positive) the effect is caused by the expansion strips in concrete roads and has nothing to do with your rig or tyres.

Cheers

I have had the same thing in the old Prado and agree with Hurls. Nothing to worry about I would say.

I think we are that used to the black stuff when we get on concrete we notice the difference.

There are many concrete roads that feel they are corrigated & does make you wonder how they can get it so rough. A front wheel drive is even worse.

Agree this is most likely answer,,, plus expansion gaps with no filler left in them.

Higher tyre pressures can make it worse..
How about ??
Checking tyre pressures esp on front to minimum recommended..

Just to put the cat around the pigeons, I had a ford focus many moons ago with the same issue, went to bob janes to be told the tyre was worn by bad steering alignment. I was mortified because the car was only 3 months old. They also told me that new cars do not get a steering alignment at manufacture (again mortified). So after an alignment and NEW tyre the road was a lot smoother.

Just putting it out there.

Safe travels
