i am currently travelling indefinitely and with a week of drizzle around cairns and atherton i have had to power up from parks rather than solar
my point being..................why do caravan parks think it is OK to charge extra for children or additional adults BUT no discount for singles?
just plain wrong in my opinion...........
Bedrock Village in Mt Surprise do....$12.00/ night powered and so does Undara Lava Tubes $18.00/night but port douglas has the cheek to ask $48.00/night for me only......my response to them was ..........i would drive back to cairns and book into one of the many motels with $55.00/night signs out the front before i paid that much for a patch of grass and a power point
Agree Solo. I have stayed in some that offer a solo rate. They don't tell you but I always ask as I do for senior discount. I found a nice one in Byron Bay, NSW Coast that charge by the person so for a solo is great, nothing flash but I keep going back and will be there for a week early August at this stage. Love the park and Byron.

I also think it is wrong to charge the same price for singe as a couple. When i am planning a trip i email a number of caravan parks and request prices . I than avoid any charghing over $20.00 for a single.

I had intended to book in for a couple of nights, shop and maybe even a reef cruise
I went on to Mossman, they got my money
I've noticed some CPs charge a single rate. They will ask how many persons. If you say 2, you will find a rate increase. By contrast, other CPs quote a rate for 2 persons. On the rare occasion I go into a CP, I usually park across the street and call them on my Cellphone for rates. If to my liking I go in, if not, I move on.

The argument the parks will give you is that you're occupying a site whether there is one of you or two of you, which makes sense if the park is fully booked but wears thin if it's nowhere near full.
Some parks (not the majority) will do a single rate, which may or may not be advertised. I always enquire beforehand, and cross the ones that don't off the list unless the rate is cheap regardless.
I suppose their argument is that with a powered site one is using the same power as two more or less, you still run the fridge, aircon or other powered items whether one or two. Less water usage for communal shower and toilet though for one.

i understand that point of view during busy times but surely in leaner times isnt a little better than nothing at all...........and then complain because i free camp
It's like bums on seats Isn't it. During off season they are happy to have any c/vans in their park. And welcome you in, During the Peak season they don't want the solo travellers Unless they pay the full price.. Beats me, I try to do free camps, voluntary work that provides power, Or help wanted..
