Observations from our trip about.

We've just come back from a few weeks trundling about S.E.Qld.

Just a few observations.

At Leyburn, a huge, quiet area. A big-arse bus & trailer decked out in Harley Davidson colours pulled up within 10 meters of a 'van.

Then fired up a generator. 'Van moved to another spot. Genny was on & off all afternoon. We woke up to the sound of, you guessed it, the genny.

Day 2 a Harley is pulled out of the trailer. It starts, revs. Stops. An hour later same again. Indispursed was the genny.

Just for a change he cranks up a TV for a 1/2 hour then back to the bike for a bit more reving.

Day 3 two Harleys are out of the trailer and he & her ride off.  The evening comes, the bikes return and on goes the genny.

We were far enough away that the antics were more amusing than annoying. Anyway, we're on holidays. Someones gotta work real hard to peeve me off.

Speaking of gennys. We had a few very dull days so the batteries weren't charging on solar. Fired up my little yamaha genny. I went to the nearest camper

& offered a spare 240v plug if the wanted to charge anything. He was gobsmacked. He & his good lady had bought their first 'van 2 days before. Very happy campers.

The couple above had come from WA sleeping on a matress in the back of their ute. By the time they got to Toowoomba Qld they felt the need for more comfort. They bought a near new 16ft poptop from a dealership in Toowoomba. They paid their money expecting to be shown how everything works. They were told that everyone was flat out. If you wait a few hours we'll show you all the bits. Pretty poor. I didn't see any reason why the couple would make that up.

Traveling along,I saw a semi coming up in my mirrors. I got on the CB radio and said " Just give me a Hoy when you are ready to pass". He replied & waited for a wide, paved shoulder where I pulled over. 1 truck,a second then a third all passed safely. Cost me 30 seconds and gave 3 working men ( very friendly & polite) a clear run.

As a final note. Don't think you can get a free camp anywhere near the Sunshine Coast coming up to a long weekend. Never saw so many whizz-bangs & backpackers in the one area.

Cheers

Just spent a week at Noosa River CP - every night around 10-15 backpacker whizz-bangs came in (surprised they could afford the high rates) - they were everywhere - had 2 beside us for a couple of nights - I could just k..l the b.....s with their doors - why can't they plan ahead and only open the doors for a bunch of things instead of for every single little item !

I've heard that Noosa Council has changed their local laws and can now fine the owner of the van instead of the driver - this might stop them taking off home without paying - I'm sure the van company would ensure the fine is fully extracted when they return the van to the depot - it's going to trap a lot of backpackers.

 Chopit,

The bus with the Harleys, did they have a dog that also rode on one of the bikes? Was the bus called Taj Ma Harley?

If so they were parked near me quite a while back for over a week. The Harleys were noisy as was the gennie but they seemed nice people and didn't really worry me at all. Heck of a rig.

I'm pretty woeful with my whizbang door.

Jetj, there was a little dog - not a peep out of it.
This had Harleyria on the colour matched, fully enclosed dual axle trailer.
Gotta love those whizz-bangs.

Has to be the same rig. The dog's called Harley as well from memory. Nice little dog.
