Mareeba is a very nice town and there is so much in the surrounding area to see its worth a couple of weeks at least I don't know if you considered staying at Walkerman but there is a very reasonably well run and friendly park where they have great happy hours and the sites are quite large we stayed there 2 years ago paid $20 per night and got the seventh free, power and water with clean amenities.

we just pulled into the FPA park in charters towers. rain on and off here too
spent last night at Belyando crossing. most of the camps we wanted to stop at on the way up were boggy mud so we used a lot of stockpile sites which are all gravel.
Have a problem with my Redarc DC/DC charger not outputting anything to charge batteries so have had to either find a powered site of run the genny for 4 hours to charge up.
Ordered a new one from Repco in CT and they will get it in overnight. then I can fit it
staying here till Friday.
