Sydney to Brisbane via Coast...any free camping??

Hi all

heading towards Brisbane tomorrow via NSW Coast.

any recommendations for free camping spots on the way.

or anywhere to visit?

Cheap sites could work for us too...travelling with adult son so getting expensive to stay in parks....and we prefer free camping!

Oh.. Vivid Light display in Sydney was great and worth a look for anyone in Sydney.

Coopernook just north of taree is good. If you are willing to go inland about 40 k up the Oxley Highway, Ellenborough is great. Trouble is things are starting to cool down now.
Grafton showground is pretty good as far as show grounds go.

Gday...

This may be pertinent ...

This is one of several interesting items in the current newsletter from Camps Australia Wide

Warning re Rest Area closures in NSW
If you are travelling between Newcastle and Coffs Harbour on the Pacific Hwy all the roadside rest areas now have signs to advise that "no camping" or overnight stops are allowed.
This is officially from the NSW Roads & Maritime Services. We have amended all these sites to be "day use" in our database and added the list of them to our online updates,

Camps Australia Wide, Australias leading RV camping guide.

Cheers - John

I have stayed there many times but not since mid last year, I hope it hasn't been hit with closure.

It is on the old highway between Murwillumbah and Tweed Heads. Just over the border from the Gold Coast.

I stopped at Bloodwood just out of Kempsey about 3 weeks ago no sign there, wish there was it was bloody noisy.  I did see a few signs for no overnight stays in areas were road works are being done but this is the first I heard of closures.

Buggered if I can find anything on the NSW Road and Maritime site either, to confirm this... But I wouldn't put it pass them to be so sneaky...

Halfway Creek .

It's called  "3 creeks campground"  , but I think it's a gold coin donation.

As you leave (Woopi) Woolgoolga , up Dirty Ck Range down th hill past th Shell Servo .

2 k past Shell , turn left , as if you are going through to Orara Way .

Stay on "main road" for 5-6 k's . Tidy little spot .

You can also stop at th Shell , but I think that is only ovanite.
