Hi All when we last spoke to anyone we were about to go to Green Lake near Shepparton we alas had some bad trouble with cars and finances and these had to be addressed. We found on the classifieds here a job for the Blinman Progress Association. They were looking for a person to help with their mine tours. We had a phone interview and just got the job over two other people who were also considered for the position .
We arrived here just after Easter, and have settled in very well to both the job and the community till the end of October where we will then move on down to the York Peninsula fishing and heading west.
As we were setting up the van at the back of the North Blinman Pub my wife Sharlet, was asked by the publican if she would like to help with cleaning rooms from time to time as they had heard that Sharlet had done cleaning before.
After a month or so of Sharlet helping with the room cleaning and my mine tours with handyman work around the Pub, we are now entrenched in this fantastic little town of 17 People and surrounding stations .
This town along with the stations rely heavily on tourism to supplement their income . Last week the publican was on his truck run to Adelaide (again another job that generates income), fell and broke his pelvis, his wife had to leave to be by his side so both Sharlet and I stepped up I helped to the bar Sharlet took over the kitchen and the young lass from England help manage us LOL .
We will be assisting these guys in any way we can till the end of our time here ,its what people do out here.
So if any of you are coming to the Flinders Ranges we would love to see you here in Blinman either at the Pub, the camp ground at the back of the Pub or on the mine tour.
This is an idealic town with lots of history awesome tours great scenery and fantastic walks. So if passing by come and see us.
HI.
Blinman brings back a few memories. Went up there a few times in the '70's and early '80's.
Goat shooting. Main thing I remember about that place was the 52\54 deg during the day. and the last time we were there. for 5 days, the coolest we got at night was around the 42\43.
Good for blackheads. and COLD beer consumption in the pub. That's about it.
Nearly as warm as it was in the Simpson (Lake Torrens) on the dragline for Roache's. Couldn't keep my waterbags full. Guzzle Guzzle.
I did a lot of tour to the Flinders Ranges over the years and loved going to Blinman I went there one day and the post office and the store were both closed for a CWA meeting and always put the groups in for lunch at the old school and what a great feed they served up.
So enjoy your time there I am sure you will have many good memories when you leave there, today the road is sealed all the way there but I remember well sliding around in big tourist coaches going from Blinman to the Pound ah yes they were the good old days.
