sick of packing and unpacking the van

Hi all

i have a question is there any one who is sick of packing the van and then unpacking every time one wants to go away for short trips

I have got to the stage i dont want to do it any more and

We want to do short quick trips about every month and it is a pain

i am trying to re organize so it can work better

My hubby said why dont i leave certain food stuff all the time in the van as we do take a bit with us

has anyone else felt this way and be gentle in the answer please and what have they work out

We leave ours sort of packed
we only need to add fresh food, milk, fresh coffee some undies, cameras, computer.
check that toiletries are there and we are about ready to head off.

The clothes I usually need are already in the van. after a trip they get washed and put back.

doing this has cut down the time we need to spend loading and unloading.

Yep, we don't unpack, just do the washing and put it back in.

We do a good clean, empty what needs to be emptied etc, make up the beds again and replaced stuff we have run out of. Even the books stay (unless I'm part way through a good read).

We also keep the pantry with basic stocks (herbs, rice, pasta, etc) and then add bread, milk etc and whatever veges I have in the house fridge. Buy fresh stuff as we go..............long past packing food for a whole week or more unless we are free camping away from shops etc.

The towels, tea towels, sheets and other bedding is caravan-specific and doesn't get mixed up with house stuff, same with shoes and some clothes now.

Don't make life too hard!

leave it packed most of the time, clean out every now and again, watch out for food items that run out of date.

only need milk and fresh food loaded each time, oh and Mrs W. biggrin

I'm with Rip n Rosie. I'd never get anywhere if I had to pack it each time. Relax and enjoy.

Same here, most things stay in van. Only take out perishables. Clothes, sheets, bedding etc are van specific. Only add fresh food and drinks and off we go!

Cheers

I am  surprised at the Large amount of food stuff a few people I know, load up  in their vehicles.  Including a Car fridge full of frozen food.

One also brings kitchen gadgets  and cooking devices that very rarely ever get used.  But she tells me she feels better always having them on hand.

We just have the Avan 90 litre 3 way fridge which has all our perishable food in it.   We also go  off road for up to a week or so often without re provisioning.

We don't drink beer while camping and  have no need to keep it cold.

Unless you are going  remote for a week, month,   You are usually passing food shops in every country town daily.    Stop and stock up for the next few days on a regular basis.  It's a good way of talking to the locals and keeps country stores in business.

Carrying a few condiments and herbs spices plus enough dry goods   (rice, pasta, noodles, oatmeal, couscous, beans, etc) and a "few" tins of food will  keep you fed for a week, or more if you get stranded someplace.     Carrying lots of tinned food is weight you don't need.

We also have the Camper left loaded with our "camping clothes" including underclothes,  socks, and bedding. These are Laundered at  leisure  and stored back in the Van. We do not carry large amounts of clothing.

Some gear we keep in storage boxes in the garage or house that just load into the van or tug  to allotted places.

We can at a rush be up and away in 2 to 3 hours   most of this time is securing our house and garden as well.

Good luck with your reorganisation, Hope it goes well.

We basically leave the van packed. After I have washed the linen it goes back in and I make up the bed again. Towels are put back on the rack. We leave some clothes in the van eg track suits, jacket each, pyjamas etc . After they are washed they are put back in the van. All food comes out after a trip except condiments. We then leave the van all ready except for food and the clothes and shoes we want to take.

Hubby washes the hoses and mats and re packs the boot so it's ready and I always clean the inside of the van when we come home from a trip. All I have to do then is give it a dust and sweep before we leave. We can pack the clothes, food, fill water tanks and hook up in a couple of hours. I find the worst part is when we come home with the unpacking, washing and cleaning of the van.. That can take a couple of days.

I know what you mean it can be a pain but with a bit of organisation it isn't too bad And the fact we can have wonderful holidays makes it easier.

Just keep travelling and don't go home. Works for us.
