Hi there, really value feedback on what route/journey/distance you would choose to travel if you had a 3 month timeframe. We are planning leaving from NSW in April 2015 but don't want our trip to be rushed by trying to fit too much in. We do not have an off-road setup but caravan equipped for free camping. Love to hear your preferences of a 3 month journey. Thanks.
I will say one thing if you have never done a trip take some short ones to find out what you like and dont like ,
also 3 months living in a caravan can be a very long time,i know we are glad to be home after a month but that's just us
Depends what you like to see and do... and if you travel with dogs or kids.
Depends on your budget.... if you want to stay in top of the range Tourists Parks and 4 or 5 tanks of diesal per week might bankrupt quite few of us.
Me, I like water views, won't travel every day, won't do more than 4 hours max drive when I do. Like my feet up by 2.30 pm. Like to eat local produce and explore farm shops, book shops and second hand shops. Like to explore local history. Like to avoid the "big smoke".
Don't have a prefered route, or a timetable......flip a coin at the next intersection and go home when you've had enough.
Depends what you like Coastal or inland. Maybe go up the north coast to Qld drive as far as you feel and come back to NSW via an inland road.
We did that all the way to Cairns, hopped across to Normanton and down the Matilda Hwy and Kidman way back to Griffith and then home to Sydney. It took us 10 weeks and we saw a lot. The only dirt road we travelled on was the road into Adeles Grove.
We can never have enough time in the van, we have been away for 4 months and loved it.
Just take your time go as far as you feel and then come home.
Thanks for responding. I think I am doing too much research and it becomes overwhelming and a little worrisome when you read of so many places being booked out. I didn't want to book ahead but now feel perhaps that is warranted around Darwin Broome etc. and of course that requires a structured itinerary rather than ambling along.
Thanks
Cheryl
Don't try to fit in too much in 3 months, it's really not all that long. You mention Darwin and Broome. I feel that might be pushing things a bit for your time frame. Sure, you will get there but what do you see on the way there or back. Precious little I would suggest.
I guess I'm suggesting something a bit more realistic and spend some time smelling the roses on the way there and back
