Annoying comments

There's one thing that really gets up my nose, that is, when you get the miserable Pension and head off to the local Super Market,

You buy what stores you can afford then hand over 90% of your Pension to a young Chick behind the counter,

She takes all the money for the small bag of stores you have just slipped into your trolley ( with room to spare )

then as she hands you the receipt, has the cheek to say...."HAVE A GOOD DAY "

My reply is " WHAT WITH, YOU'VE GOT ALL OUR MONEY " !!!! hmmhmmhmm

Hey Kiwijims, what you got in that bag that costs 90% of your miserable pension?

I only hand over 30% of my pension at supermarkets. That keeps me eating pretty well. Don't get leg of lamb or steak but rather fore-quarter chops and stewing steak.

We always go out in the hope that if we buy in bulk every second week ( Pension Day ) we might save a few quid, "HAH" fat hope when the price of everything seems to double every week.

As far as what's in the bag, "HMMMMMM"  well a couple of years back there would have been a side of lamb, today there might be a kg of mince ( same price today ) and then back a few years, we could have bought a full bag of apples for the price of a kg today. hmm

It's not the price of food I'm really complaining about anyway, It's the fact that there is very little left after getting in the stores, to be able to do much with what is left, and to have someone say "have a good Day" ( with what's left ) is rather insulting to us pensioners.  cry

My other complaint is another thing the check-out Girls always seems to say is.... have you a frequent flier card ?

My answer to this question is " NUP, STILL WALKING " it's amazing the Blank look I get from most chicks.!!!!!!  yawnnonono

Side of lamb? Never bought one in my life! I don't spend much on groceries at all. When I was caring for 2 other people with disabilities, the average fortnightly grocery bill was about $200, so food, etc, was costing each of us a little over $30 a week. I did all the cooking and they were enjoying roast chicken, T bones, meatloaf, steaks, stir fries, fish, lots of vegies, salads, dessert, etc. I developed a keen eye for specials but never had to skimp on anything. And I could never figure out why people on pensions had problems making ends meet. In fact those two used to save to visit rellies in England every 2 years and those air fares ain't cheap!

I highly doubt they saved $4k on a pension alone ???

Ahh there's always road kill...

I see the 'poor pensioners' still travel. Try living in a place without pensions then complain. Jeez give up and find another subject. We do ok and we are only on gov pension ....super wasn't an option

You can doubt it all you like, Aus-Kiwi. I was their carer for 12 years and witnessed them travel to England and return at least 4 times with only their pensions as income. And what about me? I now own a camper and ute that cost me a total of about $12,000 with fitout (over the past 3 years) and my only income is a pension.

Kiwi jims, I come from Napier, used to buy meat direct from Tomoana freezer, $ 1.50 per side mutton. I liked it better than lamb and we had 5 children. These days everyone grown with their own families. But still us 2 oldies are doing well on our pensions. I suppose those girls see doing their jobs. Customerservice tells them to wish everyone a good day. Don't be to harsh

Cheers

Howdy valnrob,  I blew out of Nelson many years back, been here in the West about 2/3's of my life time.

Now just to clarify my situation, 1st off , I am on an old age pension, the wife is too young to get a pension as yet, she suffers from type 1 Diabetes plus some other ailments which prevent her from working.

The Wife was advised to apply for an disability pension some time back, after filling in all the paper work and fronting Centrelink a million times we received a call from Canberra saying Yep No Worries, time went buy and nothing turned up, on making an enquiry the wife was told that, seeing as she didn't have anything "Hanging Off" she was not going to get a pension and would have to find a job.

Today we survive on my single mans Pension and a small amount of new start allowance, now if anyone can say we are well off on $300 p/w I would like to see them buy their stores, pay the power and phone bills plus other necessities, then have some change left over.

When we first came to Perth ( 68 ) we could buy a large leg of Hogget for $4.00 and a side of Hogget for about $10.00 and those days the sides were huge , I recall on one occasion we were worried that we didn't have enough money at a Super Market, when we took a loaded trolley of stores to the check out, I told the girl that we only had $100.00 and to stop when she reached that total on the till,

Well, "surprise surprise", back in those days we actually got all the stores from the trolley, and had some change, I would love to be able to buy that amount of stores today.

I do realise that the girls at the till are told to be friendly and courteous but, the look on most faces tells me, they couldn't care less. !!

kiwijims, if you find  food to expensive here in Aussie a easy fix? Go back to Kiwi land  more sheep there then in Aussie.furious Bar bar black sheep have you any wool,  yes sir no sir3 bags full confusebiggrin

An Australian ventriloquist visiting New Zealand walks into a small village and sees a local sitting on his porch patting his dog.

He figures he'll have a little fun, so he says to the Kiwi:
"G'day, mind if I talk to your dog?"
Villager: "The dog doesn't talk, you stupid Aussie."
Ventriloquist: "Hello dog, how's it going mate?"
Dog: "Yeah, doin' all right."
Kiwi: (look of extreme shock)
Ventriloquist: "Is this villager your owner?" (pointing at the villager)
Dog: "Yep"
Ventriloquist: "How does he treat you?"
Dog: "Yeah, real good. He walks me twice a day, feeds me great food
and takes me to the lake once a week to play."
Kiwi: (look of utter disbelief)
Ventriloquist: "Mind if I talk to your horse?"
Kiwi: "Uh, the horse doesn't talk either....I think."
Ventriloquist: "Hey horse, how's it going?"
Horse: "Cool"
Kiwi: (absolutely dumbfounded)
Ventriloquist: "Is this your owner?" (Pointing at the villager)
Horse: "Yep"
Ventriloquist: How does he treat you?
Horse: "Pretty good, thanks for asking. He rides me regularly, brushes me down often and
keeps me in the barn to protect me from the elements."
Kiwi: (total look of amazement)
Ventriloquist: "Mind if I talk to your sheep?"
Kiwi: (in a panic) " Don't believe a word he says, that sheep's a bloody liar.."

"Hey Guys"  I'm not getting my "Nickers in a twist" over a joke about Kiwi's, I've probably heard every one there is floating around over the years.

Years ago I worked in the Bush with the then P.M.G. Dept ( now Telstra ) in what one might call a very rough environment, that is, no air cons in camp and if it got too hot we slept under the vans.

One morning we headed out into the Simpson Desert to lay a phone cable coming down from the North, about two hours drive out into the Desert, we came upon a structure being built by a mob of rough tough Aussie's, I stoped to ask them what the heck they were building way out here in the Sand Pans, Their answer was "A jetty Mate" !!!!  O.K. I said, thinking they have been out in the sun to long.

We continued on the work site and stayed there until  it was finished, about three months later. on our way back to the Big Smoke we once again came upon the Jetty which was now finished, I couldn't believe my eyes, there were the Aussies, still sitting on top of this Gigantic Structure, I stopped and asked them " what the hell they were doing sitting there in the stinking hot sun, when the job was finished ???

Their answer........ "WAITING FOR THE TIDE TO COME IN MATE"    crynocryno.............biggrinbiggrinbiggrin

Good job Costello had a surplus otherwise the mob that got in after would have had less money to blow, oh no of course they wouldn't, they'd have got a couple of extra credit cards to max out.

No not being a nark etc .. Its just the numbers hardly add up ??

Airfares are around $1800 alone.. With living expenses .. Good on them..

I was suggesting / thinking  other income ?? [if they have ? good on them ]

Sheesh they must live tight.. BTW retirement is just around the corner for myself..

I won't qualify for pension for another 3 years.. Then it will possibly be part pension..

Good to see people NOT complaining about being on pension..

I guess lifestyle, being set up etc ... NOT paying silly Sydney rents..

Never mind all the above - what would you LIKE them to say instead of 'have a nice day'????
Then when you get to the counter and they say 'how has your day been' -----then maybe 'as well as can be expected under the circumstances' might be the answer inspite of the 'thought' of 'do you really care - why do you ask!!!!'.
But a smile is so much easier.
