No caravans here

We've just enjoyed a lovely week on Norfolk Island. No caravans there (well, none that we saw) but plenty of cows which have right of way.

Petrol was $2.64/lt. Sounds terrible but when you see the trouble they go to to get the fuel you understand. There were rations while we were there as the petrol tanker had broken down and fuel had to be brought in by 44 gallon drum. Then the tanker arrived and all would have been better. They depend on fuel for their power(huge generators) as well as their cars and trucks.

We weren't worried when our half tank cost $53. We'd only used 21lts and we'd had the car for a week.

Norfolk Island was refreshing - it's the way we used to be. You don't lock your doors, you can leave the car open with the keys in it. The kids don't get up to too much mischief as they are soon found out - no graffiti. It's safe for the kids too. It's not far to anywhere.

Only thing we missed was the fruit. Bananas and a few guavas were all that was in season - plus a few 'sweet?' oranges.

A lovely break from the mainland and all it's busyness.

Glad you enjoyed Norfolk Island, we spent a week there some years ago and it sounds as though it hasn't changed much, Ruth.

I remember sitting on Emily Beach enjoying the best sponge cake ever ,just bought at the store, very fresh with very real cream!!!

Pisces had a great experience on a fishing trip, where everyone sat in the boat, then it was winched out over the water, slowly lowered into the sea and off you go!  He had an equally adventurous fishing trip in Mexico but that is another story for another time.    cheers  Capricorn

We loved our week there a few years back 2007.  Life there was so uncomplicated.
