Optus locked dongle

Thanks to those who answered my query. I tried to buy an unlocked dongle and was told there's no such thing. There's a fee for unlocking it. I have an old 4g Telstra one, no longer with them, could I use it with the amasym[?] in it? Where do I go from here?

There's so many providers !!
If amasym runs on telstra then it should be OK.
I have an old Virgin dongle. I phoned them last week & they gave me the unlock code.
Will your phone tether to a laptop ? That can be handy.

Amaysim runs Optus...not Telstra so it won't work with your Telstra modem. There are heaps on Ebay unlocked that operate on both Telstra and Optus....here is an example:

Just because a modem (dongle) or phone is unlocked it doesn't mean it will work on any network anywhere...

It will only work on the frequency it was made to work on..

If you have an Optus dongle or phone there is no need to unlock it so long as you use a provider that uses the Optus network as they use the 900mhz frequency outside the metro area.

If you have a Telstra Dongle or Phone then it will work with any provider that uses the Telstra network as they operate on the 850mhz frequency outside the metro area.

the reason for unlocking a Dongle or Phone is for use in the Metro area as both Optus and Telstra use the 2100mhz frequency in major cities..

This link will give you some idea of who is who in the service providers and which network they use..

Bob - I tried to buy a Doro phone locked on OPtus prepaid online for $99 to use on my Amaysim account. This phone normally retails unlkocked for $160+  on Ebay. Called Optus and asked if the $99 Optus online phonewill work on Amaysim which uses Optus network and they said NO - must pay an unlocking fee of $65 .

They seem to have all angles covered!!!

Regards

Bob - as it turned out I ended up buying a Samsung flip phone (I don't need anything fancy).....in my ignorance I thought all mobiles nowdays were 3G which is what Amaysim works on...wrong....damn thing is 2G so I have a phone that did not work at Coober Pedy but does work at Ayers Rock. Not a real problem as my wife has a 3G phone plus I have a 3G dongle for the PC so I can use Skype etc. and it's an easy phone to use.

I have seen that happen Dennis, I think the problem is that sales assistants are not properly trained in the products they sell along with their employers need to get rid of old stock so the buyer isn't properly informed about the products they are buying..

I have a mate here that is looking for a booster antenna as he is in a low signal area, I reckon I get 3 emails a day from him wanting me to check out something he has found and in each case the item isn't suitable for his application because the seller isn't giving all the facts about the item. This mate gets very confused as many do about phones, networks, frequencies, GSM, UTMS, network providers, MVNO  and all the other things that come into play when selecting a mobile device to suit the needs of the user..

Anytime you want to update I like others here am more than happy to advise you on it..
