Finally heading off

Hi

i have been stuffing around for the last few months preparing myself for a new life on the road (solo). I have been living in my van for the last couple of months at a mates property in Flowerdale. Well I am ready to start. Next Saturday I am leaving here and heading for my first stop at Green Lakes, I am looking forward to meeting any other grey nomads when I get there.

Omg I really excited

Colin (the bald nomad)

There might not be too many there now, it's getting a bit too cold. Also been some rain in the area so could be slippery closer to the lake.
I have stayed one night in the middle of winter last year. I got it all, rain, wind, thunder and lightening.
Have fun, enjoy your new life out on the road. I am.

I left there just over a week ago. Weather was a bit miserable. Jimbo might be back there. If so, he's in a Coaster at the far southern end.

I found Aysons Reserve a little more hospitable which is not too far away from Green.

Welcome to the gang Colin, enjoy here and out in the playground.

I agree with HW, it will be very slippery and cold at Greens but you could strike it lucky for a few good days so well worth checking out.

Just make sure you only do any work that must be done in Grey Nomad hours only, 10.00am - Midday, with a one hour lunch break and as Rocky Lizard suggested the other day, a few 10 min breaks (Union Rules I spose).

Don't be like "Mongrel" who worked out of GN hours and was sent to the naughty room, might even still be in there I think. I wouldn't want to go in there after a mongrel smile

Welcome - and hope you get some good weather at Greens - where are you headed after Greens - north for some warmer weather?

Keep posting - probably in the "solo" section - heaps of people on the road at the moment - bound to meet up with some!!!

Enjoy your travelling!

Welcome Colin, you will love it out there. Like they say greens is normally just beautiful but can be a bit slippery if it's been raining. Well worth checking it out I'd say. We have had lovely weather here just lately so you might be lucky. I wish I could join you up there but I've got to head off to family on the weekend. I have very fond memories of my many trips to Greens.
Enjoy
Tess

Oh wow, such feedback is great.

I don't have any problems with the cold.... But slippery means potential being bogged.

My plans were always to try greens first.... So after Big Gorilla suggesting Aysons Reserve at least I have
a backup... If greens is wet on Saturday or I may even do both.... Who knows

How long will I stay at either? .... I don't know yet
Where will I go next?..... I don't know that either...... Isn't that half the fun?

I must admit.... Leaving on the edge of winter is a tad unconventional.. But hey, when
you get the bug you get the bug.

I will move to solo's on Saturday and fill you in on .... What, where and how.

In case I have not mentioned it.... I'm really excited ....... (And about 10% scared)

Good on you Colin. You must be a Victorian so you are doing what a lot of us do this time of year and head for the open roads. I head North to my Daughter in Townsville, she has a nice free camp down the side of her house with power and water but I have my Solar Panel out and don't need the water so doesn't cost her anything either.

I seem to be getting the bad end of the deal though smile as I seem to be doing the cooking and house work for her but that's really why I am here anyway, to help her. She has just recently separated  from her other half cry

Enjoy the lake and the playground.

Don't you just love those free camps alongside your kid's house? We're heading to Mackay to do the same thing. It's called "payback" for all those years of rearing the little ankle-biters.... Mind you, we need to be careful not to wear out our welcome - visitors and fish stink after three days biggrin So we'll give them space by heading away for a week here and there. Safe and happy travels Colin.

Well I've now been there done that. 2 weeks at greens.... Would have been better if there was more fish to catch. Had a great time and met heaps of other nomads.
My only negative is not with the lake... But getting fish and chips in Rochester. Could only find ones shop (opposite the pub) and instead of fresh they were frozen ones from a bag (yep chips and the fish) Ended up chucking them out
I will certainly go to greens again very serene and quite

From what I can gather - the Greens for some is like the "Claytons" camping holiday you have - when you're not having a camping holiday.

It appears some regulars stay for our Summer - as soon as winter approaches - they head North for the next 6 months.

Greens Lake is a great spot - had some terrific times there - and will do again I am sure - met some of the best people, still meeting up with some of them now - and yes, Lesley F, that is what happens - follow the weather - we are currently in Kununurra and the place is teeming with out of staters - rare to see a WA number plate in town!!!!

There are a couple of other spots that house GN's for a while, Wuruma Dam, near Monto in Qld., and Bedford Weir, near Blackall, Qld., are just a couple of them.
