Road from Thargomindah to Innaminka

I will copy this over to Road conditions, but meantime any recent info on road from Thargomindah to Innaminka.  Last post according to search was 2012 I think but as contemplating this trip next week would like recent update. Last i heard all sealed bar last 40 klms and that was a bit rough .... Every website says something different or is ancient history!

many thanks

Hi Libby & Charlie,

We are now up to about Plan G for a trip out to Cameron Corner and Innamincka next month (June/July) however Pete threw me a 'curlie' this afternoon about maybe leaving our camper at Thargomindah or maybe Tibooburra and doing an organised tour out to the corner etc. No wonder I'm grey!!!! Anyway, just saw your thread on here, but could not find it over on Road Conditions, but would be interested in when you are planning on going - maybe, just maybe we could team up???

Might help if I add our names!!! It's Pete & June

Ok ... Have now left our SW QLD part of this years adventures!  after travels from Far North Coast NSW we travelled via Swanbrook Rest Area east of Inverell (great overnight or more days stop), Boggibilla Shell Truck Stop ( great hot showers and food, but lots of noise from the truckers coming and going to be expected.. It is after all for the Truckers). After than Wallam Creek ( great place) and from there to Eulo pub ( needs a face lift and meal not really up to scratch).  Thargomindah next ... Great van park there ... Next Noccundra pub ... Great but could have done without the millions of flies, but the hamburgers made up for it (if you are heading there don't forget your fly mesh hat and insect repellant .. publican is great and very helpful ... He replaced Don Glasson who had a very interesting review on the net ( i found the Cedarwood and Rosemary insect repellant which was mentioned in a previous post at Landmark in Quilpie ... Great). The run to Innimeika was good and the visit to the Dig Tree interesting. Now for the roads .... All the way was great traveling ..sealed roads all the way except about 20klms road works between Noccundra and the Dig Tree turnoff ... Also about 3 short detours where road works being done ... No more than about 1 klm or less. Unsealed 14 klms from turnoff to DigTree. Road from SA border to Innimeika is unsealed and corrugated, but not bad ... Just drive to conditions.  The actual town of Innimeika is also unsealed and home to millions of flies .. And basically has a pub and trading post and not much else To write home about!

We stayed for about 4 days at Coopers Creek ... What a great place and so many places to camp.  Water and dump place in Windorah.   from there we headed for Longreach  and that's as far as we got thanks to flat tyre today  30klms south and nowhere open on weekend to replace the spare .... Of well .... Relaxing few days for us at a Caravan Park with power before heading north towards the gulf ... Any questions about any of the places we have been, just PM us and if Mr Telstra is home, we will get back to you.

Copying this across to road conditions also ... Will respond also to those of you have sent pMs to us about the roads and our plans.

Cheers.

We were in the Birdsville, Innamincka, Cameron Corner, Tibooburra, Noccundra areas in the last 2 weeks.

All roads are OK if you take it carefully and don't be in a hurry. Don't rely on fuel at Cameron Corner. $2.20 litre.
