We are heading to the Flinders Ranges for the June long weekend and plan to drive to about Jamestown or Peterborough on Friday night , didn't want to have to dodge the kangaroos later at night as we can't leave till late afternoon.
Peterborough has two great free camp sites - one at each end of the town. There's no facilities provided so you either have to take everything in and out with you or make the 5 minute trip into town on a regular basis. There's water available at the Information centre and a couple of public toilets as well as a dump point. I never found any publicly available showers. We stayed a week at the camp site behind the steam train heritage centre and were directed there by the staff at the info centre.

Ooohhhh we just stayed at Terowie, at the railway line. How interesting!! Some interesting old buildings on site, you can't go in them though. No facilities at all there. The town is completely deserted other than the post office. Only saw one person in the town! Had a great stop there. There is a roadhouse on the highway close by.
