Re Dash Cameras.

G,day ,I profess to know nothing whatsoever with regard to dash cams so before I go and spend maybe $90 or so {and I will cause I figure for the small outlay compared to most caravan  accessories its not bad considering legal liabilities etc being what they are and only going to get worse, why not have an "edge" } I presume they stick on the glass but does a cable hang down in my eyesight and how do they operate ?I value someones knowledge that is not behind a counter giving me his "spin " Cheers John

Lots of different types check ebay .They run from the cig lighter socket.

Prices from a few dollars to maybe couple hundred for top units. Theres one i think called pro cam.

Used alot by sporting people in cycling. Water sports etc. It is a more expensive unit. Mine came from ebay a has gps tracking.a google maps.

On play back with the nett you have the google maps showing where you went .gps co ordinates every few minutes plus time clock tracking. I think it was about $150.

They make you take extra care of your own driving as it could be used against you.LOL.

The one I have sits up behind (or is it in front of) the rear view mirror. The cable is long enough to route along the top edge of the windscreen and then down the passenger corner pillar and under the dash to the ciggy socket. I have set mine up so the cam comes on aas soon as it gets power to the ciggy socket, therefore it comes on automatically when you start driving.

TRY jaycar for an inexpensive sports cam.
I saw the one {I have 2 ) on special for around $40 a few weeks back.
They are a Go-Pro copy. In saying that they have more features than I can use.
Buy a large Gig ( 16 or 32 gig) memory card. More recording time.
They ( like most) can be set to record continuously and record over old footage and start again.
I swear by ours. Have used them on our trike,in the 4x4 & walking around. A fraction of the cost of the market leader ( Go-Pro).
Whatever you decide on be sure to mount it at the edge of your windscreen or somewhere else that won't interfere with driver vision.
An over-enthusiastic officer Plod may give you an unwanted memory of obstructed vision.
Great fun, when you get the hang of it.

I have one, cost about $80. Came with a waterproof case and all sorts of brackets. I have it on the windscreen behind (or in front, which ever) the mirror when travelling. I have used it on the front of my boat and other places. The "single"shot photos are of reasonable standard when put on the computer. I to have a little fun with it and have some very good "movies"

Go for it.

Bought a dashcam not long ago after a few close calls (dickheads overtaking over double yellow lines coming towards us). Our unit is a GW1, picked it up on Ebay for $52. This is the cheapest camera under $60 and is reasonably basic. It had 1080 resolution and picture is good. This one does not record speed or GPS location. Speed is useful if you need to contest an unjust speeding fine or need to prove speed was not a factor in them mishap.
It has already been of good uses when a van reversed into me in a carpark. No arguments as I had the footage.
If looking for a dashcam, this site may be a good starting point.

I have a UNIDEN cost about 80 at JB Hi Fi works good. Don't buy one of the caravan show/ebay type. Not worth a pincha

We have one that cost $58 on Ebay - works really well, has lots of features and the playback is terrific on the computer - son also has the same one on his work truck - a great investment - his insurance guys told him that time will come when we get a rebate for having one.

Apart from traffic incidents, we have also taken some of the video of camels crossing roads, etc - great to send to people, put on this site, or on FB!

We are in a motorhome - so high up, and ours sits at the bottom of the windscreen, cord goes to cigarette plug, no problem. (They have a built in battery as well).
