The problem with vans is that there is no use having a modern fuel efficient engine up front when it is being required to drag a heavy anchor behind.
Maybe if van manufacturers could go easier on the bling, presentation and advertising, and put a few dollars into modern materials and practical design. Make a lighter, more robust van that sells by word-of-mouth and sack those pain-in-the-posterior salesmen who likely never travelled beyond their local bar.
Yes , it would be a great way to see the country, and have time to stop and smell the roses, or manure.I remember seeing a gypsy van in England, and it looked very comfortable. Love Shire horses. We used to have some in the bay where I live. Don,t worry, Abott and his mates would find some way to tax it. Bill
As we are heading off for winter I topped up the tank with unleaded from quarter tank to full $87.00 (Pajero) very glad we normally run on LPG otherwise our annual holiday would be down to the local shops and back, maybe if lucky a incease in fuel prices may be blocked in the senate.

I am not laughing at your idea of the horse and cart, I think its wonderful. The gypsy in my soul has always yearned for the day to travel in that way. My dream to live and travel in my gypsy vardo would enhance life tremendously. Sleep under the stars, cook by the open fire, yes I would love it, even though I have my own home and comforts, it is really something I've never felt a real need for. I am very self sufficient. With the thought of that vardo in mind, I'll leave this post with a smile. That picture of horse and cart is so tranquil, sure beats a view of roads heavily laden with traffic......Kisha.
