Broken Hill-Silverland Caravan Park

We are night stopping Broken Hill in late May on our way to FNQ from SA. Has anybody stayed at the Silverland Caravan Park before and if so what is it like?

This is a 2009 report from elsewhere, not sure if it is the same now;

"We stayed at the Silverland Caravan Park in October last year ($18.90 per night - I think that was a discounted Senior's rate) and found it good. But if you are after something with all the bells and whistles, then this would possibly be not the one for you.
They had concrete slabs to park on and the amenities were good and clean."

Personally we have stayed at the Top Tourist one in the main street a couple of times, ok there too.   Make sure you visit Silverton, they did have a CP near there called Penrose Park, but not sure if it is still operating, Mr Google may be able to tell you.

Make sure you lock up well wherever you stay, even when going to the loo/showers etc.

Have a good trip!

Stayed at Silverland C/P 2 years ago. OK park but it was reported on this forum that it has closed down.
Someone else may know more.
Cheers,
Patto

Hi Jack,
We stopped their in 2012 and it was great, quite basic but plenty of room. Unfortunately we went back last year in July and found it was closed up. I don't know if it was a temporary closure or not. Perhaps you could contact the tourist information centre in Broken Hill. Brenda.

The owner passed away and the family did not have time too look after the park,the park was not flash but very good value for money compared
to the other places in Broken Hill.

We recently stayed at Penrose Park out at Silverton. Scott and his partner Kathy are really nice people but the park needs a fair bit of improvement. It rained while we were there and the place turned into a mud pit and we were told that the park does get cut off as the local creeks overflow the road (only one way in and the same way out). It is more like a bush camp than a park with little control over where or how people parked their RV and the amenities were pretty basic and attempting to get our 28' rig in was difficult due to the narrow roads around the park and small turns into the camping area. We discovered alternative, easier routes but weren't told about them. There is no water connection for the RV so if you're going there remember to fill the tanks at Broken Hill. The fees are $10 per person per night and $5 for power. The road in has heaps of dips and floodways as well as being unfenced for part of the way (wiht the resultant stock wandering around the road) so take it easy. We won't be returning.

When in Broken Hill last year we had a look at Penrose Park and I wasn't the slightest impressed with it and wouldn't be bothered dragging the van out there on a very average road.

 We were in Silverton today, and the van park is open. $10 per adult per day.
