I would suggest you get a quote and insist on having it posted to you with their policy document and their Production Disclosure Document. Read it all VERY carefully, and BEFORE comparing the price with your existing mob, see how they compare in what they cover - in particular insomuch meeting YOUR circumstances and requirements.
The only other thing then is to find someone who has actually had their policies and made a CLAIM ... and how it was handled.

I think the reason they are so cheap is that they offer policies that have conditions like you can only drive you car so many times a week or so many kilometres per week the less you are on the road the lower the risk.As for other insurance don't have a clue but i bet there is a catch. You have to ask yourself one question why are they so cheap when all other insurance companies are increasing their Policies
I rung them once for a quote,they hounded me many times after not signing up with them straight away.They were also belittling in there approach and the girl that I had never met kept calling me MATE ( I HATE THAT) In the end I had to make it very clear to stop harassing me .As for the insurance ,it was cheaper,but as other members have said read the fine print.Doug I have changed to APIA after many years with another company.cheers Peter.

Rang oui for a quote on boat insurance and asked them to email it. Never happened. They then email me how I rated their service. I replied letting them know about my experience with them. Not happy.
G'Day Doug, we've been with YOUI for about 5 years now - my car, wife's car, house and contents. Put our neighbours on to them and they cut 40% off their old house and contents premium with Suncorp.....even found that the premium cover $5000 towards your funeral if you get killed if the house burns down. They ask multiple questions like do you know the names of your neighbours, distance from schools, types of locks, window screens etc. They are owned by a South African company and if you speak to them about motor vehicle insurance you'll talk to someone in South Africa but for house and contents they have an office at Maroochydore (I think) so it's Aussies you speak to. We've never had a claim but then again we never had a claim with other companies over the past 50 years or so. Insurance companies are not benevolent societies - they are out to make a profit....all of them. I reckon to ask for a quote - do it on the phone rather than online as they are nice people to speak to (they all are when it comes to extracting money from you!). I think you will get a surprise.

Edit - just for info we pay $712 for 350K on house and $90K on contents - we pay first $400. Territory is $327 for comp insur market value (prob $8K) and pay first $500.

Thanks evryone, as I was expecting, mixed comments so I will do some more homework but to keep the stress levels at bay I might just do that slowly for the time being anyway. The expenditure column does look a bit ill though. Might be just the heat here in Townsville

I also went on their website and 3 times tried to get a quote and asked them yo get back to me as the detail wasn't very clear on what they actually covered but alas I never heard from them and I dont know anyone who has used them
I'd be asking to see a standard PDS form and compare the cover with your existing company. Then I would check to see what restrictions there are on the cover such as Choice of Repairer, do they have offices in each State to help with Claims. Excesses to pay.
I would not do it totally online, you need to get some human involvement - preferably in the Country/ State you live in - over the phone is OK provided they confirm via Email that day.
Price paid is forgotten when you have to make a claim.
Be careful! Some of these cheap insurance companies are underwritten by South African companies. I'm not sure what their business practices are, or how you stand by Australian law.

Ran into trouble back in Sept 13 with dirty fuel.
Spoke with the engineering mob in Nowra and he suggested we try the insurance;
He had a jar of dirty fuel as evidence together with a busted common rail
Just under $11,000 and 10 days later with a cheque from Youi I was mobile again.
Their assessor was on site within 2 days and okayed the work - complete new fuel system and common rail replaced.
Now, on the other hand, my wife applied to them for a phone quote and said she would get back to them if she goes ahead.
Without a problem they duly deducted the amount without confirming with her that she would go ahead
This happens when they do the quote - they get all your details including BANK details.
Otherwise they don't do the quote.
Indeed, she hates their guts.

requested a quote online and they rang me. Lady was very pleasant, asked lots of questions about the house and the neighbourhood.
Emailed me their privacy policy and the quote. I replied I would consider it and get back to them and she said I can ring you just tell me what day and what time.
The quote was $277 less than NRMA for a slightly higher amount and does not include flood cover which I am ok with as we are not in a flood area. I did try to get this taken off NRMA policy but they would not remove it.
I have read the policy document and all seems ok to my eyes.
the only thing mentioned was if there is a tree higher than 2 storeys within 20 metres of the house and it damages the house there is an excess of $2500 for that claim.
That tree blew down into the paddock next door 4 weeks ago!!!
I will get a quote for the van and cars when they become due just to see what it would cost.
so that is $277 I have to spend on more important things like our next trip.
