When we were kids we were always told not to pick any mushrooms/toadstools with white flesh or pale brown flesh, only those with wide tops and dark brown flesh.
Tragic results for these people who ate them.

The news report I heard about the Death Cap Mushrooms, said that they were bought in Woolworths. Don't remember if it was yesterday morning, or this morning.
"Anyone who ate mushrooms bought from Dickson Woolworths around April 17 and was experiencing symptoms of stomach aches, vomiting and diarrhoea have been advised to seek immediate medical attention."

Thanks for that Pete, Woolworths are also doing their own investigation into the claims.
The link you provided said there was no evidence that the mushrooms were purchased from Woolies, but I think that has to be confirmed, even though those poisoned claimed they were.
Some of the poison varieties we have in Oz are similar to the edible varieties in Asia, and there have been a couple of cases in Oz where Asians have picked the Oz poisoned ones thinking they were edible.
I would be very surprised if they came from Woolworths. The ones we had last night from Woolies were delicious by the way.
It didn't give any details Vic. It was one of those running things at the bottom of the screen when there was a news break. Just said that there had been a fourth death from the Death Cap Mushroom. Didn't even say what State.
Cheers,
Sheba.

"ACT Health authorities are concerned for two people poisoned by death cap mushrooms in Canberra. The poisonings have brought to four the number of suspected cases of people harvesting and eating wild mushrooms. The latest poisoning is unrelated to the three cases that emerged at the weekend. Two patients in Canberra are recovering well and are expected to be discharged soon. A third remains in Sydney's Royal Prince Alfred Hospital receiving specialist care.
ACT chief health officer Paul Kelly says it is concerning that the poison has entered the liver of the latest patient, who is female. She is also in a Sydney hospital receiving specialist care."
