Well we now have our first trip under our belt..Up the coast way from Central Coast NSW to just north of Townsville, M/H travelled exceptionally well the beautiful "Bruce Hwy" I must admit kept me on my toes tended to want to throw us from side to side a fair bit. The weather was quite pleasant occasional shower but for the most sunny and dry... Fortunately the vehicle is fully self sufficient so did not need to stay at any parks keeping our costs to a minimum.
Cyclone hit the "Cape area" so decided to head West stayed at Julia Creek (what a great tourist info centre well worth calling in to see) however the free camp site down by the creek was another story it began to rain and the creek began rising very fast so decided to high tail it to higher ground very glad my M/H is 4x4 it git boggy very quickly..what I should have done was to harness the the strength of all the "Bloody Blowies" they were notorius I swear my feet left the ground on a couple of occasions there were so many of them and talk about persistence the more aeroguard I used the more blowies joined the party......
There really are some very good rest sites in Queensland even out back territory they were mostly clean and very tidy a credit to the authorities responsible for their operations. Anyway due to a family issue we had to cut our trip short and head back to the Coast.
Hopefully we will be heading away again soon so we can finally do the round Aussie trip...
Sounds like a great first trip for sure, glad all went OK for you. I am currently in Townsville but luckily the flies and mozzies aren't too bad here, YET.

Hi mainworry and all. Mate, didn't any one tell you that everything in the Real Australia (Queensland) is friendly. Locals, butchers, bar staff and blowies just to name a few. Aerogard used to work a loooong time ago until the Mexatorians started using it like Q'landers use XXXX Gold whereby the bush raisins developed a liking for it so that they now actively seek it out. The only effective deterrent is to coat yourself liberally with a mixture of pork fat mixed with mud which also ensures you don't get to many bodies at your happy hour, particularly on the 3rd and 4th days. Glad to hear your first trip went OK. Everyone on this forum had a first trip at some stage and I know that thinking back it was a lot of fun but everything is infinitely easier now and even more fun. Hope all your travels are happy ones and that our paths cross some day. Cheers.
