I have been sitting here, having a Think about my aches and pains, ( 70 this year)
The Wife said something which is very true..... Our Parents never told us what it would be like, or how it feels when one starts to get old, after all, how does one make you feel the way they do ?
You wake in the morning with stiff joints, it's a struggle to climb out of the sack, then it can take what seems forever to drag on some cloths, only to make it to the toilet, to take half of them off again.
The eye sight isn't as good as it used to be, but I still drive and,.... that "New Bird" living next door, sure makes a fine figure, so I would say I'm still fair-sighted so far.
Our local "Quack" has got us both down as "Major Share-holders" in the local Chemist, I wonder how much of a back-hander he gets out of that ?
Still, we can't really complain, we've done a lot more mileage than many of our friends, and while we can still get around, There is still hope to shove another good few KM's on the meter yet, before the "Flamin Daughter" tries to shove us in the "Old Farts Home" as she calls it.
When we talk about some place we have been to, then realise " Strike Me " that was... 45 Years ago !!, then one starts to feel it.

Yes my father told me in great detail how it feels to get old. He lived to 103.
My biggest whinge about being "mature" is when we go to museums in the country towns, we see things we have used It feels like not long ago since we used them .
I wouldn't change it for quids, we've had a great life!!!
We wouldn't change it for anything, I can't get over the Kid's now days, they don't seem to want to get out there and see the world,
We couldn't wait to go and explore new places and to try your hand at working with new things.
We still have our Son at home with us, ( he's only 33 ) has no desire to do anything after he gets home from work, we've suggested he tried the Lawn mower while we were away on our last trip around the block, came home, long lawns, How come I asked? ..... Couldn't start the mower !!!
Now the point I am trying to make is that, in our day we had to use a hand mower owned by our Old Man, if we didn't use it, "look out"
But we, ( three brothers ) used to fight over the mower, only too keen to be using this "New Contraption"

Whats 70?, I don't care about what numer I am this year or the next, just live it.
Ran into an old couple in Ceduna about 8 years ago, they had a 63 model holden, an old Vicount caravan.
The old lady told me "Sonny, we ran away from home when we turned 70, and we aint going back. We just stop in a caravan park until the pension cheque catches up and then we move on. You know, if we were still at home we'd be dead by now. We get up every day and look forward to making new friends."
My Mother travelled this beautiful country until she was 82. Yes she had an artificial knee and suffered from arthritis as well as other ailments. Her philosophy was simple "Keep moving, learning and laughing" She would say when you give up those 3 things you will die. She did pass away at 87 from leukemia. She rarely complained just accepted the fact she was getting older but wasn't going to give in. I will try and live by her philosophy and so far I am doing ok.
How many people do you hear of that retire - don't seem to do too much then not long after they pass away - got to get out there and do things haven't we?
What's more, we were encouraged to play sport and exercise, because that was healthy and good for us. What they didn't tell us was the effects of all that sport and exercise on knees, ankles and shoulders!
