Just wondering which is best. Drain all the systems and refill the fresh tanks to stop mould etc or drain everything and leave empty. Seems wise to me to drain all the systems and fill water tank while stored. Drain, flush and refill when ready to use again. Any suggestions from the experienced travelers would be much appreciated.

I have my tanks full and then drain, flush and refill before each trip. I think it was a tip given to me by the dealer when we had a camper trailer. Not had any issues doing this, also if the system has a leak you can spot it while it's at home.
I had a special hose for mine to drain onto the garden or lawn when back home.
Leave taps open to allow air to circulate etc.
Put some vinegar in before refilling, flush and refill before taking off.
Never had a problem that I know of doing things that way.
Still prefer to have a supply of drinking water in portable containers or bottles for drinking, will drink the tank water if needed but can also boil it if not sure.
Having worked in a fresh food processing industry where (mains supply) water is part of the product ingredients. With large quantities held in holding tanks and piped around the plant.
It was always the procedure to keep everything full with water in it, at all times.
This was considered safer than having slack or empty tanks.
All tanks and pipework that were regularly emptied as part of the process had to have C.I.P. (Clean in Place) systems and procedures to sanitize them set up.
I always have kept my tanks full (tight) when the van is stored, with a couple of added "Milsons" tablets washed in when filling for storage.
Then before heading off we Drain and refill Twice. The present tank is only 60 litres in the Avan. I had the Tank out last year to do some welding on the tank bearers.
I had a look inside with an inspection camera (from work) and was surprised to see how clean it was after nine years of use.
We alway use our tank water for drinking and domestic use. Very rarely buy bottled water.
Very interesting EllieMike, thank you.
We always fill our tank before storage. If doubtful about the quality of water that's in it, we empty, flush with "tank clean" and refill with mains supply home water. Our tank is for drinking water, creek water never gets near it, and we've had no problems..
