first question

what kind of satfinder are you using?

Hi Phil C;

            Setting up the vast receiver can take some time when you first set out. First thing i would do before you have your receiver autherized is once you have every thing set up, dish pointed in the right directions, the correct elevation last thing is the skew set ( start at 12 0'clock ). Then see if you can receive channel 800.

This is the default seting for you receiver and does not need to be authorised to be able to pick up this channel ( 800 ).

Once you have this channel  and only then do you contact mysattv to get authorised. Failure to do this first and mysattv will send out the signal and if you dish is 'off direction' then the receiver  has not picked up the signal that unlocks your receiver. SO what i'm trying to say is make certain that your are able to receive channel 800 FIRST.

If you can not receive channel 800, you have problems with the direction or the elevation is off.The LMB can also fail. When trying to find the satilight it is a bit like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.

A good satilight meter helps, and not one of those cheap $50.00 specials and a good compass also helps, and yes there are apts now out for you fhone and the like, but i preferr to use a good compass.

Small and i mean small increments work the best.

What size dish do you have, smaller dishes are harder to alighn up

I asked the question about what type of sat finder you are using because an analogue satfinder will scream and show sig strength on any satellite


I always recommend using a digital sat finder that will indicate only on the C1 sat which makes it so much easier. The SF500 from satlink or the SF3239 from Satplus will do the job nicely.

The satellites are quite close together "up there" and it is quite easy to be aiming at the wrong one.

Flux capacitor has been destroyed by a fast train (love the comment) . I have an 85cm dish, single port LNB, the STB is an Altec DSD4121RV I have the fancy finder from itech world that indicates C1 sat, it often tells me there is a short in the LNB, whatever that does I will never know. I have a new LNB and it does the same trick. Cant get 800 at all. So needle in haystack isnt in it, I think I would have better luck finding the "lost flight" 370. Thanks for the help guys, any other suggestions will be gratefully received.

Phil  try (if you don't already) and connect everything including sat finder before you turn power to sat box on.

I had same problem and was taking a shortcut to get setup quicker,,, didn't work as the "short" message kept coming up. Ah the digital world.
