Welcome to the forum drilleray - re toilets in popups, I can only pass on what we've experienced with a frame type ensuite. However, we've just today bought a popup ensuite to make putting up and down easier. Folded it up 4 times too!!!!!
Re the specifics you mentions:
weight....popup weighs 2kg and porta potty weighs anything from 10KG to 20 KG depending on how full it is - you can empty whenever you like of course.
smells...if the wind is blowing then no problems but otherwise a pressure pack of fragrsnt stuff will kill any smell.
leaks....the toilet should not leak and neither should the popup unless you erect it on uneven ground.
There are different types of portable toilets but the porta potty style seems most popular and reliable.

I would like advice on problems if any with portable toilets used with popup en suit. ie weight, smells, leaks, etc.
