It seems that many did not read beyond the words climate change in my 1st post.
I was not asking for a political debate, It is happening as it has happened many times before but for those of us on the road full time things may get more than a little difficult, other than pulling in to CP's to plug in if one has air con how will we manage life on the road?
Fuel costs seem set to rise, GST sounds as though it will be going up and will quite possibly include a gst componant, the caravan park people will nop doubt put up the site fees again and if we are still working we may not be for long. if we are not still working any pensions may well go down....
All I was asking for was a discussion on what others may be thinking of doing as all these things start to kick in....

We as a collective group are in an ideal position to take the lead by making an immediate & visible statement to all Australia on our commitment to the treatment of Climate Change & its associated threat to humanity. Numerically we are many & are spread throughout all corners of this land, we by-and-large drive large 4x4 diesel drinking vehicles, towing large loads, spewing toxic emissions behind as we continually travel far & wide. Because of the size of our rigs & our numbers on the roads in all parts of Australia in all seasons, my suggestion is we could show the lead to all younger Australians, all those younger than us dotty Grey Nomads, by all parking our van in a relative or friends' front yard & see out our time free of polluting the planet & contaminating their future. I could only imagine the massive volume of pollutants saved over the remainder of our time. This would obviously offset any minor inconvenience incurred by our hosts, & would be appreciated by all & could be our legacy for generations to come. I thus put forward this proposal to all Grey Nomads to take this immediate action. My apologies to any Tasmanians or Victorians getting set to escape a southern winter, but you have just had a hotter than usual summer & this should sustain you through the coming winter, but we need to make a statement here & take the lead. All I need now is a seconder for this motion to put it to the Grey Nomad committee. If this motion is taken up then I will pass on a happy man, with a clear conscience with the knowledge that I have departed, leaving this world a better place for me having been here.

Of topic but....

If Terry had used paragraphs in his/her post then I would have read it....

Regards Chris

I'll come to your aid Chris and Terry, I'll do you a favour and buy you a tent in exchange for your car and caravan...as I already have my own setup, yours will rest peacefully in my backyard for life.

Problem solved!!!

I like your summation, but you haven't explained what causes the many 'ice ages' over the eons or the catastrophic events that wiped out such populations as the dinosaurs millions of years ago, as well the cause of the receding waters that enveloped most of the earth all those years ago...was it 'climate change' And what caused it?!

A reasonable request, but not much chance of anything coming of it. No one is interested unless someone does it for them and then they will complain about the cost, or supposed inconvenience. However climate change is not the real problem we face in the very near future, it's the collapse of the food chains and world ecology and that's going to be an extremely devastating problem for all of humanity and much of the life left on the planet.

Here's just a couple of extraordinary facts which people don't seem to realise or understand. We currently take about 1 million tonnes of sea life from the oceans every day from just the largest 5 companies and because stocks have diminished so much, they are now taking krill in 10 kilometer long by 1 klm deep nets, towed by two huge ships and followed by factory ships which process the product.

These nets collect everything and what is not used returned dead to the sea. Krill are at the bottom of the oceans food chain and as stocks are depleted, so every other sea animal will have less and less food up the chain. The increasing shark attacks could be because their food supplies are disappearing as large trawler fishing increases around the planet.

Add the fact 95% of the waste from more than 7 billion humans ends up in the oceans daily along with every other bit of useless junk we consume. Now we have a new danger to our oceans, micro plastic which are in things like toothpaste and makeup, supposedly to aid in toxic beauty junk products and soaps. Along with all the other billions of tonnes of plastic going into the seas and land fills every day, the only outcome is fatalistic disaster.

Then we have diminishing fossil fuels and the associated rising prices, Aus has less then 2 weeks fuel stock in the country and now we import virtually all our fuel and export our own oil, as we have no more refineries.

The only thing you can do is prepare yourself personally, mentally and physically and make your life as self sufficient as possible, whilst having a good time. If the political system was run for the people and a survivable future, we would already be using alternative fuels and energy at close to 100%. That could be done with no effect on food production and would reduce diesel engined fuel prices by more than 70%, the flow on would drop all prices by about 30% over the transition period and then this country would be fully sufficient in fuels, whilst we develop better electric long haul transport.

We started preparing back in 1977 and have been fully self sufficient in food, energy and fuel for the last 15 years. When we travel we carry just about everything, so only have to pick up fresh locally grown food where ever we go. We carry more than 1000lt of our own fuel and for long times away from Tas, we take potted herbs and easy grow veggies, including chilies and tomato's. We are vegetarians, who don't eat any dairies or proceed foods, but do eat our own home organically grown and locally caught fish and poultry. We have a aquaponics system at home, which saves us a fortune, adding to our disposable income. Now our pensions are all disposable, we can save lots to buy big ticket items and along with the work we get, means even money to have a good time.

Our electrical systems are all Lifepo4 and that's completely changed everything from a struggle, to easy street electrical living when travelling. Our fuel is a co-operate thing between a few of us and we each grow a certain amount of seed oils each year which provides us with enough oil for the year to do just about anything we want at virtually no cost. Plus we are developing our own stockpiles of fuel each year, it emits 80% less pollutants than fossil fuels, is non toxic or poisonous, non volatile, environmentally friendly and the waste is brilliant compost. We also make our own pure soaps from it, reducing costs even more, which gives us nearly all our income to spend on fun and good times

Our home and property is all solar powered and we get 3 phase from a 8kva veggie oil fueled generator, everything is automatic. So no need for lots of work as we age and maintenance is minimal as built it all myself.

Nothing will change, no one really cares except to live for today and bugger tomorrow. That's the attitude we see everywhere and if people did care about the future, they would have already started becoming as self sufficient as they can and begun to take care of their health as well. One of the biggest killers will be dramatic weather changes, which will disrupt the metabolism of everyone and if you are unwell, it will effect you much worse, so the science says.
