6 Week Getaway

Hi All

Just thought I'd post a rundown on our latest venture . We left Brisbane and travelled to Oakey to visit friends then on to Yarramalong Weir for a few days then to Texas for a week ( could have stayed forever as it's such a lovely area ). We then moved to Nindigully for 2 days ( no water in river but pub was great ) , then to Beardmore free camp right on river and just great for relaxing so we stayed a couple of days . Next stop was Fishermans Rest at Surat ( 3 days) which was great , just a short walk to town and the Cobb and Co museum is terrific . Moving on again to Mitchell , also Fishermans Rest right on river for a few days . The birdlife there was terrific and plenty of roos . Off again to Charleville and 27 mile creek for the night . The river there was polluted with something as there were a lot of dead fish along the banks . Early next morning we set off for Jericho , stopping first at Tambo where we were told at the servo rather than go to Barcaldine ,take the cross country road to Alpha then to Jericho as it's many less miles and a good road mostly tar . Not so , it was like driving on a corrogated roof , shook the crap out of everything and a flat van tyre to boot . When we finally arrived in Alpha first thing was to replace tyre at whatever cost ( thinking lots ) but what a suprise at the trye centre $50 second hand fitted as opposed to $180 new . We then picked up supplies and headed to Jericho . The camp there is great not so the town with only the pub and a general store / cafe open . The store is so expensive that the locals travel to Barcaldine to shop and still end up in front . After Jericho it was under the bridge at Emerald for the night then on to Dawson River for 5 days . The work the council put into this camp is a credit to them as it has everything one needs and all for a donation . Our final stop was Kinbombi Falls for 4 days before heading home . Can't wait for the next one , heading south this time .

The End

That road between Tambo and Alpha was very rough in places when we did it, four years ago! We did a tyre on the tug!
