My brother is planning this trip with off road camper trailer and all things off road for July / August 2014. Any tips, advice, warnings please.

There have been several "off road camper trailers" abandoned along that road.
It is a remote track and some of it has corrugations that defy comprehension.
Permits are required.

These pics were taken in 1999. My all accounts it has deteriorated since then.
