Our 2005 Nissan patrol wagon ..3ltr diesel zd30 just blew the motor at 164000 klms. We bought it brand new in 2006 expecting many more miles than it's done. A replacement quote from Nissan was. $9000 plus fitting at "around" $3000. We located a brand new one on eBay for $6000.
Nissan customer service rep Shawn says Nissan will not help with labour costs or motor as the problem is not a manufacture problem. We beg to differ. Just look on any 4wd or caravan Forum on this model. If you have one of these Nissans we urge you to trade it before 120000klms as that's when they are time bombs.
the worst part is having to replace the zd30 with the same type of motor as the original that just blew up and paying $9000 for the worse motor ever built.

Hi sorry to hear of your woes. Another forum member Kiwi-as had some problems with an engine blow up a while ago. They replaced the motor with a Chevvy replacement diesel.
I'm not sure if that is an option for you but it might be worth a look to see if it's a viable option for you and it may be cost effective.
If you go to the search and type heart replacement it may give you more info.

I am told that a lot of these problems with the Nissan motor are caused by over fueling and can be avoided by fitting a good qaulity EGT gauge pre turbo and driving by it. I don't know if this is the case with your tug but hope the information is of use. Landy

In life it is important to know when to stop arguing with people
and simply let them be wrong.
It sure makes one look when you hear of a Nissan Motor blowing up at that low mileage,
Also makes you wonder, what sort of material they use in motors now days.
We also own a Nissan Patrol, an old 89 model 4.2 diesel, we've had it over 5 years now and in that time,
have towed a 17' Caravan right around the country, incl Tassie.
I made a point of changing the oil and Filters every 5,000 km,
the old Girl has done well over 400,000 km now, and never had it's head off, but a lot of the "tack on parts"
such as the hoses, water pump, thermo housing, and alternator, have been replaced over the years.
A Service Mechanic up in Far North QLD, described our old Model as "Bullet Proof" when I asked him to check the Gear Box,
as I thought there was a bit of noise there, nothing was found and it's still going strong.
Sometimes it pays to get something a bit older, with luck they will last longer, keeping our fingers crossed here.
best of luck with getting mobile again.

These motors are that good that it has been replaced by a V8 in the new ones. Trying to get too much power out of too small an engine No replacement for cubic capacity 4.2 turbo cruiser engine forever
