UPDATE ON PRADO STARTING PROBLEM

Well, I thought I would give a bit of an update since the latest events.

After a another week of the problem mentioned in an earlier post the tug decided to start every time for two weeks then in it's wisdom played up again for a week so I decided enough is enough.

My mechanic mate arranged for a new starter motor as it was leaning more to that being the problem so in the new starter went on Saturday morning. All was good for the rest of the day so headed of on my Northern Migration journey early Sunday morning.

Continue on I did and after stopping at Yass NSW to refuel and after paying for said fuel went to start the tug, no go, nothing, zilch, naught, dead as a dodo. Now my mate had told me he had trouble connecting the plug onto the side of the starter motor but thinks it was OK.

Being a RACV Total Care Member I rang them for assistance, bugger, at least 60 minute wait, no big drama so I tried getting my hand in behind the front right wheel and feel for the plug, I think I felt it but not sure as it is very hard to get too. I then tried to start the tug again and yep, you guessed it, sparks, yehhhhh, started. So rang back to the RACV and cancelled call.

I continued my journey to my destination of Penrith, NSW and left the tug going until finally settled.

Monday arrived and my good friend Mongrel rang his mechanic and off we went with tug to get checked out. After a discussion with the mechanic it was decided to leave the tug and they will check the starter as well as check the timing and gas system due to the amount of fuel I go through in very short distances. It is now Tuesday morning and the mechanic rang last night saying yes it was the plug so they have sorted that out and will now check the other things for me. I am now tug less until they ring all is sorted, I hope.

Very nice, helpful people though and I tell you that for free. They even told big Al, mongrel, to chauffeur me around until I get my tug back. As I said very nice helpful people and that advice came with no charge but I don't reckon the rest of their work will be free.

The joys of motoring and being in the playground I suppose.

My other good mate wombat told me mongrel is a real mongrel but I want to make it very clear here and now that mongrel is only a mongrel not a real mongrel smile.

If you upgrade the chip you will get more power and use less fuel and it will not void your warranty.

I got the tug back last night and the timing belt was just a tad out so they adjusted that and made a few other adjustments. Nothing else could be found out of the ordinary and everything showed to be within Toyota Specs. They spoke with Toyota and my 90 series Prado had some fuel issues in some cars, so looks like I was one of those cars. Not much else can be done. They also said don't get rid of the tug as it is a good one really with plenty of km left.

If you are ever in the Kingswoon NSW area I can highly recommend Armour Automotive. Just PM Mongrel or Myself if you want contact details.

Hey Doug

One from left field,,, maybe make sure it is not an intermittent immobiliser problem.

Go to the Tojo site may assist you.

Cheers Baz
