From the newspaper article. Me thinks it's a Park to stay away from:

Police were called about 8.30pm with reports of a large violent brawl at the Gold Coast-Springbrook Road park which is notorious for crime.

Looks like it's another Park to place on ones " BYPASS " list.

Gday...

Despite the level of violence and unruliness in cities/towns, still some people feel threatened/anxious about camping away by themselves in a tranquil, quiet environment.

Safer in the bush anytime I reckon - caravan parks and/or towns and cities do not necessarily afford greater safety.

cheers - John

My feeling exactly. The only truly dangerous animal I've ever come across in Aust is the human kind. Nothing else would go out of it's way to do us harm (unless you feel you must camp on the banks of a croc-infested river. But then you can't blame the hungry crocbiggrinbiggrin

When you do free camp .. Do you find it safer out of town or right in town ?? I feel on towns outer edges to be a little worry ..
Out MH is large enough to feel safe.. But issues can pop up anywhere...
Our quiet house was shot 15 bullets [drive by] at a few years ago.. Don't have any idea why ???
So things can happen any where !!!

Gday...

Generally speaking Graeme, I camp away from towns.

I very rarely sleep at 'rest areas' on highways but at actual camping spots that have seclusion. The quieter the better.

Although there are many (thousands it would seem ) who love to sleep at 'rest areas' particularly if they are crowded with other campers. It is that security feeling again.

OH and there sure ain't bin no 15 bullets pumped into my van ... that's big smoke problems.

Cheers - John

Not always a big smoke problem, I remember camping for a week on the 'Bidgee with the now ex-wife. One night a group of roo shooters turned up, we could see the spotlights & here the rifles but obviously they couldn't see our camp light.
Sitting in the camp chair and all of a sudden thump a bullet hit the tree beside us, well that was it for the next 1.5 hours we decided it was safer to lay on the beach at the bottom of the bank and watch the stars. Was a little bit daunting I must say.
These guys were obviously red necks & not pro shooters for the amount of noise & shots made there wouldn't of been a roo with in 20 km's after the first 5 minutes.

That must have been terrifying. Did you move? I don't think I would ever be able to feel safe at that place after such an experience.  Guess I'll stick with my little cottage in the bush even though it's 75km to the supermarket. The only shots I hear around here are the bird scarer at the prawn farm.

Na still is same place..We STILL wonder why ?? Did one of us cut someone off on way home etc..
Did Mrs refuse to supply beer to someone at the RSL ?? Which happens 2 or 3 times a day..
My son got his outside ear bitten off while stopping the same guy beating his girlfriend..
He just got out of jail that morning..
The latter seems more probable..
I gets to me when I hear all the drive by shootings ..
When people say when there's fire etc etc..
For two years we had 14mm steel plate on lower section of our front windows..

Numinbah Correctional Centre in the hinterland behind the Gold coast. Been stabbing, new managers every few months, almost nightly is fights and a lot of taxi drivers would not go there to pick up a fare.

i DROVE CABS ON THE GOLD COAST FROM 1986 TILL MID 200 AND ITS SAD THAT THIS HAPPENS SO CLOSE TO THE gOLD COAST? MOST STAY THERE ARE EX INMATES FROM  Numinbah Correctional Centre, AFTER BEING RELEASED.
