Prado rear door

Just wondering if any kind soul can help with a problem with my new Prado.

When I'm hooked up level onto my caravan and I try to open the back door,

the handle on the caravan hitch hits the sparewheel cover about 3-4 inches

up and will only allow the door to open about 2 ft. which makes it very difficult

to get the Genie out without uncoupling all the time.

Hope someone can help me solve this problem

Regards Fitzy

Must be a standard problem Fitzy cos I have a 1998 Prado and have that problem. Not sure of a fix though as the door opens sideways and not down. It is a small problem I just seem to work around. Since I changed over to Solar power 14 months ago my gene hasn't seen the light of day, maybe just lucky.

Had a Pajero that cause similar angst. Bought a Landcruiser and not had the problem since. Unfortunately you need a split tail gate, horizontal or vertical.

If you do some searches you should find some threads that make mention of a kit to raise the wheel bracket and solve the problem

I have a 150 series Prado SX (3 door) and on the caravan I have the Hitchmaster DO35 offroad coupling and don't have any problems with the rear door of the Prado hitting the coupling.

Another one you could look at fitzy is the "McHitch" No relative of the golden arches though. Similar to the "Hitchmaster" mentioned by B52.
