Most people have a FOX decoder - why don't you take that instead and

Lots easier and you aren't stuck with the business of registration and
so-on.

The Vast stuff is a cumbersome dying system soon to be discontinued in
many districts.

Please excuse me if I have the bull by the horns, but I have a Satking ProMax and I have 114 channels available, according to the start-up screen. Only thing I must do is re-register every 6 months (no charge) and call them if I move from one state to another. Not compulsory, but allows access to "local" news etc Cheers

I will be taking my Foxtel box with me next year when I hit. the road full time.

I have just finalised the build on my caravan, and have added an external connection point for a portable dish, and had all connections wired to both t.v sets.

g'day Tailor

I would first check the settings in the decoder

Sat (download) frequency should be 12567

22khz-Off

LO frequency - 10700

Polarity- Vertical

How can there be so many terrestrial channels? Are they repeats of the same channel?

As I thought - same as available on terrestrial TV - area specific for some local content

as you move around.

What a load of garbage, which by the way is mostly what you get with Fox.

Seen the same tv shows over and over, the same lyon eating the same wildebeest over and over again. The same movies repeated every second month, got rid of fox ages ago absolute waste of money....in my opinion.

Vast, not perfect, but its FREE, get most local news and enough sport for the average jowblow.no

Vast registration hard, not for thousands of travellers using it, cumbersome!!!!!! You have to be kidding, really?no

You don't get local tv, UNLESS your in town or nearby!

ABC & SBS is all you get, again really? , only if you don't know what your doing!!!!!!!!!

Any way, beam him up Mr Scottbiggrin

I am having a strange problem with my Satking STB.

I was using a SK-500 Satellite finder, but couldn't get a quality signal. Bought a SAK-3200.

My SK-3200 finder is showing 82% Strength and 78% quality, however the STB just keeps scanning with no result.

I recently changed my LNB to a new Satking but was having the same problem before that.

I've tried everything I can think of. Checked all the parameters. 3 different cables, all show 13.4V. Signal finding a number of times, turn the STB off and on. Factory reset. Tried a rehit, but this won't work without the box getting a signal.

At this point I'm thinking something internal.
Anyone had a similar problem?

Have you re-applied to the VAST network? You have to re-apply for access every 6 months unless you have permanent access.

Have you waited for the required time for access to the various channels to be downloaded to your set top box? It usually takes a half hour to get access to SBS and ABC and may take longer for the commercial channels when you first get access for an area.

Have you entered the correct state (NSW, VIC, etc.) into the settings in the set top box?

How do you know it's the same lion? It might be a friend who looks similar.

If your registration and signal strength are ok wkich 82% is, you may need to do a decoder rehit, which usually happens if you haven't had your unit powered up for a while. Just google decoder rehit and follow the promps!

g'day

I am thinking if you are getting good signal strength and zero quality then you are aimed at the wrong satellite. The birds are stationed only a couple of degrees apart so try scanning a little to the left or right.

Have been with VAST for over 5 yrs. If having to re-register every 6 months is too hard then just forget about it. All the re-registration takes is a couple of minutes and a mobile phone and you are set for the next 6 months. what can that be so hard? Or are you TBL.

TBL. I move almost daily and after a couple of days I'm in another district.

When terrestrial does the same job, who needs the mucking around.

Anyway, each to his own. Fox for me and terrestrial - hardly ever.

Well surely you can see by the many replies, vast is not difficult and gives you plenty of options, your remarks tell a different story or are you just commenting for the sake of it!

Your knowledge and understanding of vast seems limited!

In my opinion!

Vast is so much easier than winding up the terrestrial antenna, and
cheaper too - just a bit of a satellite dish (miss the trees) and tiny decoder.

Lazy skinflint me will just do the terrestrial bit.

We use VAST, have been using it for some years now. It is easy to use, we have ABC, SBS and their associated channels including indigenous, secondary channels for 7,9,10 (GWN,Win etc.) I re-register every 6 months and, as mentioned above, if the signal isn't there when I test prior to a trip I get a rehit from VAST.

The main reason we have it is when we travel remote we can access information on weather and any fires in our area.

As an aside we watched the 2018 grand final while in the Great Victoria Desert.

Now the following is a copy of a post I did on another forum regarding setting up a dish after our "Marriage Saver" failed.

"I found that Wiki Satfinder was inaccurate which was confirmed by our supplier, Access antennas.
When we were on the Gunbarrell last year our "marriage saver" tuner failed, so for the next 6 months of our trip we resorted to using the data gleaned from Satking/Vast information readily available as part of the system. We ultimately could tune in within less than a minute after we got the information and there was a clear line of sight to the satellite.
It involves having an orienteering compass for accuracy, setting up the TV, connect the dish, have the dish facing generally a few degrees East of North then:

- Use your GPS, Navigator or the "Emergency" app on your phone to get your position (lat/Long)
- turn on TV and connect to Vast with set top box,
- when Vast starts to try to log on, press menu
- Vast then will opt out and you will have a no signal screen
- Press on menu again a list of options will appear
- select Signal Finding, selection 1
- you will have a map of Oz, select your state and maneuver the cross hairs to the required Lat.Long.
- then press OK, which will take you to all the information you need on screen
- Write down - Bearing, Elevation and LNB skew on to paper or pad
- now press exit-exit-exit until you return to the menu
- select Installation, selection 2, there will be 2 strength bars on the bottom of the page

Now take your information to the dish
-Set up the bearing of the dish via the orienteering compass after using the compass bearing to get a clear view into the sky without tall trees and positioning the dish
-Set the elevation via the inclination meter you have
-Set the LNB skew (this doesn't need to be totally accurate)
- have someone watching the two strength lines on the TV
- minutely swivel the dish very slowly left or right until usually an orange strength line appears then you know you are close, a bit of minor adjustment will change that to green
- Generally I accept a signal strength of 60% or upwards which gives a good picture.

All this takes me around 3-5 minutes and can be shorter when there are no trees around and you have done it a few times. "

I hope this is of assistance, we used it for 6 months and apart from occasionally having to spend time navigating trees it worked very well.

Cheers
RichardK

VAST does have the advantage if you travel more remote.

Terrestrial TV is fine close to civilisation, but soon loses its attraction when out in the country. We use terrestrial in towns, but soon move to the satellite when in the country. 10 - 15 minute step up includes getting the sat dish and tripod out and set up.

Whatever suits your preferred travel locations is probably best!

As for skinflint, our secondhand VAST setup cost a total of $350 including the decoder some additional cable and a spare LNB. Not much more than one of the current crop of terrestrial antennas.

I think that some comments in this topic are carefully worded to cause an argument.

The guilty person is very good at it, it is a pity really as it drags the reasonable comments into a topic which ends up in a less than informative topic.

Some may remember his comments to my wife with his views on covid deaths. The topic was so bad that the admin had to remove comments and lock the post.
His antagonistic comments were only put up to cause distraction and hurt, with him enjoying the comments end the end result.

On a number of occasions in previous posts Wanda has stated quite categorically that we are all a bunch of racist, misogynist, politically incorrect "old white men" and instructed the webmaster to pull us into line.

Given that he despises us so much I am unsure why he continues to post and interact? I imagine he is essentially a trouble-maker and enjoys the conflict.

I'll not be sad to see the back of him.

Sorry Mike I'm still hear.
I guess I just call a spade a spade.
I'm not thin skinned also as some seem to be hear, at times should I say, when it suites them ofcourse.
And I do still believe there is a group on here that are bitter, twisted, old white men, without naming them of course

Wanda may get his thoughts across more clearly if he chose the correct words or spelling.
