After reading Hako's post on must haves & the responses has made us think. Originally we were going to put in a 170l fridge/freezer consisting of a 60l freezer & 110l fridge, the reason for this was so we could carry all this frozen meat/food & supplies for an extended period of time.
We are planning on doing trips where we could be sitting on a river bank for 2+ weeks and not always seeing civilization.
My question is do we really need this big a setup, what size do you guys have that works.
Thanks in advance.

Woolly,
Already live in Paradise but would like to see much more of this great country.
Our van had a 220l Waeco compressor fridge/freezer. We are in the process of ordering a new van and it will have the same type of fridge. We are also planning on a Waeco 30 litre drawer fridge under the lounge seat just for drinks.
You want to camp out for lengthy periods it is only food and water that will stop you. Near a river, water problem solved. Got a large capacity to store fresh or frozen stuff, food problem solved. IMHO
we've got the caravan 3 way one what we dont use anymore
only the 2way one what has 48 ltr fridge and 22 freezer
only thing I do is put every night new beer in for what I used
so far big enough for 2 weeks
Hi Woolly and all. You don't say how many mouths to feed but in our M/h with wife and I plus 2 medium dogs we have a Dometic 12v compressor fridge 175 Ltr split 40/135. We also have an Engel 35 Ltr which is mainly for dog meat. We find the 175 ltr fridge is adequate for up to 2 weeks away from civilization and probably even a bit longer if you get the odd feed of fish, yabbies or roo stew. We don't load the fridge up with refreshments just 3 or 4 cans and if more are required a bit of shock cooling in the freezer. The Dometic is a good unit, efficient and not to power hungry ( 5.5- 6 amps ) which is important to us as we are largely solar reliant. Cheers.
We only have the standard issue van fridge/freezer (90L maybe) and find, especially near running water, using a milk crate and occy straps to keep the beer at drinking temperature its ok for a couple of weeks
Yep , we have a Waeco about 220 ltr I guess but the freezer is too small so we purchased a 45ltr Technice freezer and it now quite adequate for the boss (**** tzu} Yvonne and myself. Fridge consumes about 60 watts and the freezer 36watts . We also totally rely on solar except for the geny when desperate.
We are totally solar and have enough power to run a 320l 240v standard household fridge 24/7 and it is always full and when it isn't we fill it with blown up bladders out of wine casks...
Give me an excuse to keep buying more wine..
In my opinion you can never have too much fridge space.. but you have to stay within your capabilities to run it..
It's one of my bones of contention.. with most peoples setup's.. they are willing to spend the Big dollar's on a 12/240v Fridge which will not give much change out of $2k.. while for about $500-600 you can get the same size fridge and spend the money on an efficient Battery/solar system..
