I have noticed these advertised recently and was wondering if anybody out there has had any experience with these plugs. Thought the LED function would be handy in providing a quick check that the plug/socket were properly mated. Obviously still have to check that the lights function correctly.

You are only young once but, you can be immature for ever.
Could be useful but I haven't seen the need for one in 40 years, you still need to see if the lights are all working at the back of your van, may be handy if you were fault finding a problem in the car wiring or proving that the fault is in the van wiring and not the car.
