Magazine pet peeves.

Peeve one.

I often buy magazines relating to camping and caravanning particularly whilst travelling. One of my favourites was 'On The Road'. Recently OTR have introduced giveaway recipe cards which is fine for those that collect that sort of thing. The problem is the card is placed inside the plastic sleeve obscuring the contents of the cover. Without juggling and twisting the package you can't tell what's in the magazine or if it is an issue you have already read. I haven't bought a copy since they started adding the cards.

Peeve two.

I always bought 'Go Camping' because it was the only non caravan, camping mag that described destinations accessible by two wheel drive. I notice they have changed their name by adding '& 4WD Adventures' making the mag yet another 4WD publication. I also have difficulty holding interest in some of the flowery writing styles, particularly Kara Murphy and Andrea Ferris.

And three.
Magazines that come in packs of three and you can't tell what the second and third ones are.

Easy fixed! don't buy them, as the other two are often a waste of paper!

If you have enough data allowance just google around for on line content and don't bother with magazines like I do now.

My peeve is the rubbish advertising I have to endure after parting with over $10.00 for the rag in the 1st place.

If the sticker price doesn't cover the costs then get out of the business.

Solution is open packaging in newsagent and check contents.

Works for me.

You may find according to the law, if you open the packaging, they can make you pay for the item as you have damaged it. But if staff open it for you, you don't pay if you don't want it.

Can't remember the last time we bought a magazine, do all our reading on line, much cheaper and you can get many different accounts and idea's.

OTR, did you email them and tell them you are no longer buying, cos if enough people do that then they may stop doing it.

3 mag package, the two you cannot see are just old stock that they do not want and you do not want and they can't get rid of.

I always got "On The Road" ever since the first edition but decided last year not to buy any mags anymore as just dust collectors and I got sick of all the same old adds etc. I agree about the 3 mag packs and if I did get those at some stage just chucked the back two out.

Mmmmm, wonder if you could just chuck out wombats like that confusebiggrin

Well I took up your suggestion and sent an email to On The Road. My concerns were largely dismissed by both the editor and another letter writer but the good news is the recipie card has been moved to the back of the magazine. This enabled me to see the cover, notice an article about Bourke and subsequently buy the magazine.

Glad you were proactive and there was a solution which will benefit others.
