Please excuse my ignorance but we got a Honda EU20i and we were told that would run the Air/con and fridge, TV. It will but not all at once so am thinking about upgrading.
Another question, and please excuse my ignorance: when travelling does the fridge run off the Anderson plug, or solar? like I said please forgive my ignorance we are still novices even though we have had van for 12 months we only used about 3 times, and still getting the hang of it. We are however looking forward to getting back on the road in April/May and hoping to catch up with some of you
if you are in a situation where you need to run your genny for power, I would strongly suggest you run the fridge on gas. It will work best on this fuel source anyway.
I run our Ibis aircon on our Eu20i Honda with no problems but I have to turn the battery charger off and make sure the fridge is running on gas by turning the AES off.
The Honda will not run anything else if you are running your aircon on it.
To be able to run all the things you mentioned you would need at least a 3kVa genny. There are many cheaper units that claim a capacity of 4.4 kVa but if you want the quality of a Honda I would go for the Eu30i and there are two models available.
hope that helps

thanks mate, what does the solar panels run then other than lights? I was under the impression that the Anderson plug run the fridge while driving, or does it only charge Solar batteries?
When you are travelling you would put the fridge on to 12v and it should run from the car alternator ok if the wiring is the correct size.
Your solar will still charge the van batteries as you drive along but a connection from the car alternator would also help to charge the batteries and there several ways of doing this depending on the set up in your car.

Thanks for that, they did say when wiring the 4wd that it would be charging batteries, so will try it when we take van for a run and will have it checked out before we take off. I appreciate your help
Don't forget the solar charges the batteries that run the 12 volt tele. I have a 3 way fridge but never run it of house batteries, only the car when on 12 volt. If your stopping to have a look around some place or free camping, switch to gas. My van is set up so that when the car is shut down the weaco in back of tug runs off house batteries. I can plug Anderson plug into van to run weaco when free camping
Think I have had to many Wild Turkeys
We totally concur with the above posts. We always run the fridge on gas when camping and battery when travelling. Of course of 240 in C.Parks.Naturally you need to have the solar panels on roof to generate power when travelling. Keep your battery fully charged or as close to.. and you will run a number of 12 volts incl. TV.
