Hi there, our travels from Hobart took us to the Wall in the Wilderness. Such an amazing talented man. Then heading to Strahan we found the Hungry Wombat Café and had a yummy morning tea. (You thought I was going to say Wombat, burger or stew, didn't you?) Then we continued on our journey to Strahan. On Sunday we headed off on our cruise around Macquarie Harbour and then up the Gordon River and experienced all seasons in the 5-1/2 hrs. But we were very lucky that, when we had our little trips ashore the weather was clearing. In the afternoon the sun came out and warmed up. Mongrel got blown to bits on the foredeck when taking photos. I left him to do that for me....... (I'm not silly!) Our accommodation was very comfy and spacious. No complaints there. Can recommend the Driftwood Villas wholeheartedly.
Then it was off to Cradle Mountain. What an amazing sight. So breathtaking, we were lucky that the weather cleared in the arvo. Although a little cold, this made the air crisp and gave us really good photos. And a bonus, we were upgraded to a King suite with spa!! This accommodation was top notch! It even had resident wallabies who munched on the greenery and ignored us. We were visited on the balcony by a big black bird who was watching us eat breakfast. We also were visited by a Silver Eyed finch and a mountain wren of some type. If it had not been too cold to sit on the balcony we might have lost our breakkie to them! And no we don't feed the animals, some just take!
So this afternoon we have arrived in Devonport via Sheffield and some lookouts and viewpoints along the way. We are based here for 3 days and plan a few day trips before we head home on the Spirit on Friday night. We hope you enjoy the attached photos.
Mongrel was allowed of his lead to have a pic taken bet ya he was back in it 5 mins later though
Sounds like you are really settling into this retirement thing Alan and Adele. Oh! and I tell you that for free.
Now, as to that cafe place, typical is all I can say, see wombat has eaten roots and left um leaves sorry not a sight of him. I reckon he must have been dazelled by your arrival.
Enjoy Devonport and take in some time down by the river watching the ships come in and out, very relaxing indeed and I also tell you that for free. If you like seafood there is a great fresh seafood shop on the road leading to the ferry. Got some yummy oysters and Blue Eye Trevalla from there a couple of times. The mouth is watering just typing that.
See you soon.
