Wheel Theft.

I'm not sure exactly where or when, [one of 2 places only possible]  but some Lowlife stole my Wheels , replacing mine with theirs.  How often do you look at your wheels, to make sure they're the right ones?

Only realised it had happened, when I went to buy new tyres, and discovered the ones I now had, were a brand I'd never even heard of, let alone bought. [Triangle.]  I'd thought the Wheel rims were starting to get a lot of Rust spots on them, but never imagined the reason they looked different.

Ordered new Rims, and my Tyre guy got me White ones.  Now if anything like that happens again, I'll know a hell of a lot sooner, and might be able to pin-point who did it.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Engrave your licence number on the wheel rims Sheba - that is what Neighbourhood Watch tell people to do - engrave TV's, appliances etc with this - nobody ever has the same number as you.

What a bummer - could you claim it on insurance?

Sorry to hear this Sheba,,, it is not uncommon and if your wheels are attractive or expensive it could happen again.

One easy solution is to get some locking nuts (only need 1 per wheel plus spare{s}  ) and screw on to replace one of your existing nuts. They have a key to unlock when you need to.

That is shocking Sheba. An absolute disgrace, the b........ds. You would be wondering just how long ago it must have happened.
There won't be any way of finding the culprits now.
I'm thinking of getting mine engraved now.

Do you really think that a thief cares who's licence number is engraved on their new set of wheels. The chances of anyone seeing them again are extremely remote.

Locking nuts would be a far better proposition.

Thanks for the commiserations every-one.  And as Alice has said above, it's not something you would expect.  Others have said it happens often.

That's why I posted my experience, in case others weren't aware that this can happen.

And thanks for the tip about the Locking Nuts every-one.  I didn't know about them.  Will get that organised next time I get to Rocky.

Cheers,

Sheba.

Wheels are more a job for a pro. Gerty Dancer had  a bent aerial which is probably youth on the rampage. Unfortunately we might see more of that with high unemployment. Kids have nothing to do except drink, get stoned and cause trouble...

OMG!!!! that is a story you would think is an urban myth, if you did not know the source. How damn awful, just beggars belief the low lifes out there and so frustrating as they are long gone.

I will be getting some wheel lock nuts.

This really is amazing, I suppose the only good bit if there is any, is that they put other wheels on & didn't just leave it on blocks.

Dishonesty is so rife nowadays that Keith & I rarely go off together in our Suzuki. One of us has to stay with the motorhome (on guard). A sad reflection on today's society. At least we don't need to worry about someone stealing our wheels. An ordinary car jack would not do the job. Cheers Alice

I'm just amazed they did all this to Sheba's van where there must have been other people around and no-one questioned what they were doing.
Unless they snuck on to your property in the dark of night Sheba.

Sorry to hear that, is it something the insurance will cover?

I suppose we shouldn't be surprised. I paid close to a grand for a set of 5 tyres, so leaving them unsecured in public is probably quite tempting to thieves. But how long did you leave your vehicle unattended to have this happen? And was it at the kind of tourist destination where low-lifes expect that you will be away for at least an hour?  I know that Josephine Falls in FNQ had problems with thieves targeting tourist vehicles in the car-park. I daresay it's not the only place with that problem.  Think I might just get locking nuts myselfhmm

Sheba that is a terrible thing to happen

can you give us some idea of the possible places this might have happened?

Have you had you vehicle serviced recently? maybe the apprentice put the wrong wheels back on your vehicle

Triangle are a fairly well known brand nowadays and not bad tyres according to some but I have no personal experience with them.

good luck and yes get some locking nuts from any decent auto parts store.

It can only have happened at one of 2 places.  Either at home, or at Yeppoon Hospital.  Was there for a week last year, and parked in a Disabled Area, in full view of the reception Desk, fully lit at night, and with Security patrols.

Cheers,

Sheba.

HHmm thanks for that

the hospital sounds a likely suspect if you were there for a week.

have you asked the senior security officer if there are any reports from his staff patrols?

if there are none I would become suspicious of the security patrol.

most public hospitals have recorded CCTV and the footage is usually kept for at least a month(could be less though)

I would be asking if they could check and if there is evidence there it can be passed on to police.

worth chasing up

frank

Sheba, firstly comisserations on the loss of your wheels.
Check with the hospital and ask if they still have the video record for that peroid of time. They may have captured the thief in action.

Not sure if it was at the Hospital Allan.  At the time I had some-one else staying on my property, who might be a likely candidate.  [ Being a good Samaritan again.  Will I ever learn ? ]

It happened around 12 months ago now, so they probably won't have those Videos still any-way.

Cheers,

Sheba.
