Hi there - looks like I'll be joining the ranks over the next few months. This forum obviously is a huge find for me - with great people, information, and tips. Wondering if there is any app or similar which covers off the basics found here? While I've made a lot of notes already - keen to know what's out there for more "on the road" tips, safety and suggestions. Maybe I'll just print what I need, but I'm keen to know how you stay connected to info out there. I know some apps still work without a connection, so maybe there's something? Thanks for your time.
Not sure if the following is what you are looking for but two items to look at, re where to stay are 'The Bible" Normally published every two years the "Camps" series of books detail lots of low cost campsites. present volume I believe is Camps 7. Next version should be 2105 if I'm not mistaken. A few versions around Camps snaps 7 and has photos of the sites so you see what's there before you go. Gives you an idea of the area.
Another is Wikicamps as an app for tablet or smart phone. A PC version is being developed the site says. Very easy to use and cheap to purchase. Works both offline and online. Personally I like Wikicamps. You can set up an account(Free) and post comments and photos for sites you have visited. Has a few extras like a Satellite dish setup extra.
You will find a lot of information on this forum, there is some very knowledgable people on here just ask what you need to know, and you will get an answer pretty quick, and enjoy.

Hope this helps.
As Yug says, (typo is 2015) Camps books come out every two years with a new edition, old editions can be updated online up to 4 years I think. They also have apps, see this link; http://www.campsaustraliawide.com/
Apps (some are NSW/Tasmania specific) I have on my Android so far are:-
AppNGo (NSW & Tasmania Visitor Information)
Campin Australia (Accommodation)
Infish (Tasmania Fishing Info)
Just In Time (toilet locator)
mySwitch (Digital signal locator and antenna advice.)
Post Code Search (Ever been to a web site that wants a post code? This helps)
WikiCamps (Accommodation)
Can't vouch for the food apps except for Domino's.
The Domino's app is brilliant. Watch the progress of your order in real time so it's there for you
when you reach the store.
There is no better way to find out all these things than to get out there and do it..
Start with an overnight trip within 100k of home and then go for longer as time permits, it will give you an idea of what you need to take and what info you need..

Good advice. I'm taking it to the extreme though.
I live in a caravan park. I'll pitch my tent in the back yard a few times to get used to it and of course wet it down a few times as well.
I then plan on moving out of the park and camping local for awhile before I head off to Tassy.
Personally, I don't think you can go past Wikicamps - I have both that and Camps on my iPad and I consider the cost for Camps does not justify what you get and rarely use it. I feel the hardcopy of CAW is too cumbersome to use while travelling. I think it is all a personal choice and you will work out which suits you best. There are plenty of other apps you can download from the Apple store which are free and can give you some good ideas about where to go, when to go and what to see. You will probably download several free apps and after checking them out, if you are like me, you will be deleting many of them as not really what you want. I also subscribe to a couple of RSS fees which occasionally bring forth some gems of information - but lots of useless stuff to weed out also!
Best of luck and happy travels

Well by the time you eventually get on the road you will have tested all your gear and found out what you NEED and what you only WANT..
I remember well the first day I drove out of the drive wonder if I had forgotten anything and is this really what I wanted to do, it is now coming on 5 yrs since that first trip and lots of things have changed including the rig about 4 times but each time we make it a little better..
So like I said get out there and do it and if your phone or your computer or you fridge or your anything doesn't work properly you can survive without them for a day or so and fix them for next time..
