While online I thought I might post a "heads up" re keyless entry. On Australia Day family members were leaving a function, she placed her handbag with keys, phone etc, on the front seat, closed the door, opened the back door and strapped in the 8 month old bub into his car seat. Closed the back door and "click" all doors locked. As this was a company car the second set of keys were with the company. Her husband was able to phone the help line of the motor vehicle manufacturer for assistance. Within minutes ambulance, police and fire truck were in the driveway, activated by the motor vehicle company. One of the services, not sure which, had a device that deactivated the lock and they were able to gain entry without smashing a window.
My wife had a similiar problem with her car, pulled up in front of the garage, put the car in park, got out to open the roller door, wind blew the car door closed, "click" all doors locked, motor running, house keys, phone etc in car, me at work. Eventually got a neighbour to ring me at work, came home like the White Knight to the rescue. All good but lost all the brownie points rewarded the very next day!
Good warning for those with keyless entry feature. Am I to assume the vehicle 'automatically' locks the doors only because the motor is not running?
Is the vehicle "programmed" to lock all doors automatically? EG - when you get in, start the motor and move off, do the doors automatically lock?
Can the auto-lock feature be "de-programmed" so that they do not lock unless you activate the key - or the locking mechanism.
Mine is programmed to re-lock all doors if I unlock them, and do not open any door within 1 minute. It can also be programmed so that as soon as I begin to drive off it will lock all doors. Thankfully, I am able to 'un-program" that feature.
Cheers - John

I guess it is a sign of the times... and is a lot worse in the cities around the world, This sort of thing is what is putting me off buying a newer car than my old trusty VT commodore that can only be locked with the key in your hand.. or sitting in the car and locking it with the button.
Scary stuff especially with some of the very hot weather around. I used to have a Toyota Prius with Keyless entry. All you need is the key on you and when you approach the vehicle it unlocks.
When I first got the vehicle I could not get that to work and on the first service/ inspection I told the mechanic about the problem. He spent an hour and a half working through the manual to identify the problem. Turns out I left the spare key/immobiliser in the log books in the glove box. With the other key in the car you cannot lock the vehicle except with the key in the lock. Innovation and keyless locks. To my mind the good old key in the lock from the outside seems to be the safest alternative. Yes have a code in the key to start the motor etc but only manual locking from outside.
I have a Toyota. I can lock it, when I get out, using a button in my driver door or on the back of my rear door. If I leave the remote in the car, it won't lock and sends out a beep to alert me. And it definitely won't lock if the the engine is running, because I tried it. It sends out alarms. Mine is a 2011 model.
Mine is programmed to lock automatically only when I hit 25kph. So far I've always remembered not to leave the key inside at any time but I'm getting old, its time to think of a place to hide the key outside the car. Or just call the RAC.
If you start your vehicle by pressing a button, then leave the keyless transponder in one of your pockets. Ladies, put them in your bras, most are big enough.
Better still, have a spare key planted outside the vehicle.

Have a Landcruiser and it is the same. You can't lock the key fob in the car.
Saw 4ladies trapped in their key less car in a car park in Echuca earlier last year, it wasn't that hot, but they couldn't start it or anything. After about 15 minutes of everyone trying different things and a RACV bloke couldn't do anything, I said to smash the window but they refused, when the cops came they smashed front and back windows, as one lady was about to pass out from the conditions inside. Then they had to drag them out though the smashed windows because nothing worked, we left as more experts arrived.
Pretty common to see people locked out of their key less cars, not starting, alarms going of with no one around. Great stuff computerisation, but unlike planes, no real backup, or override systems in cars so far.
