Prevent Guy rope trips

In a caravan park the people had their annexes secured with guy ropes, and  right beside the pegs in the ground was a little solar garden light. It worked so well, you could see where the guy ropes were at night, and all the coloured lights were pretty too. smile

Those little solar garden lights are $5 each  in some shops, and 80cents in others.

GD there a great safety idea but the cheap ones I bought didn't last long.
Next time I will have to go up market to the $5 ones.
Cheers,
John

We have found them to be hit and miss, some of them fail, probably due to water getting in, others from the same lot last for many months. And their initial price didn't make much difference as far as we could tell.

We've been using these el-cheapo solar lights as markers for... oohh... what..?? 5 or 6 years...
$2 each in the Reject Shop... sometimes a Dollar in Sams...
Bonus is: The light helps to keep the Dross away from the van at night...

What we use is a pool noodle (yellow) with a hole through the middle, some with a  split through in, it to go over the ropes at the peg, and the other go over the so it sits on the tension arm.

As all good campers have a or should have a torch and can see where they are going. You can make 8 safety warnings to see where the pegs and ropes are. HIC

Hi all. Being a frugal ( read lousy ) sort of a bloke I resent lashing out on such luxuries. I recycle the silver bag -park pillow - out of a wine cask and cut it into strips then by prising open the lay of the guy rope and tucking one end of the strip into it you have a moving, reflective wake-me-up.. If you still trip over my guys I can recommend a good optometrist. Cheers.

I use  300mm lengths of 40mm white conduit that slide over the bottom of the springs & guy ropes.

Handy too for rolling up the guy rope & pegs when storing.

My ropes & pegs are stored in separate bags made from the legs of old jeans with a draw string opening.

I have thought of the solar lights & might pick some up for a trial.

The pool noodles seem ike a good idea too.

Of course being a non drinker these days (wowser if you like) I don't have too many wine cask bladders & SWMBO might object to me destroying the decorum of the camp, in having strips of them dangling from the awning.  Perhaps some recycled XMAS decorations might be acceptable.

While on the subject of guy ropes, I always double peg the corner ropes with opposing angles on the pegs  .. one with the point going in at around 45 degrees towards the van & the other at the same angle but pointing parallel to the awning.

Hi Cupie and all. I reckon somebody you know, or where you're camping, will have the liner out of a chateau neuf de cardboard you can commandeer. I would never encourage any person to drink, unless they were very thirsty but having said that I do organise some humdinger happy hours. Cheerrs.

Great minds think alike Gerty.

Have been using solar lights at the base of guy ropes for a while now. I picked up some from K mart for $2. They were half price. They change colour. Originally bought them for Christmas but use them all the time now.

Cheers Glenda.
