January 24 Today in history

Gday...

1788  -

French ships enter Port Jackson just two days before Captain Arthur Phillip takes formal possession of New South Wales.

1965  -

Winston Churchill, the Prime Minister who refused to be demoralised by Germany's Blitz campaign in WWII, dies.

1972  -

A Japanese soldier, unaware that World War II ended almost thirty years earlier, is discovered hiding on Guam.

1984  -

The Apple Macintosh computer is released.

Cheers - John

Good ol' Winston... probably the only man alive who could stand up to Hitler and beat him. It's interesting to observe their oratory. Winston was thoughtful and inspirational, while Hitler was a raving madman. What a scary time in history that was.

There was an Apple Mac sitting in my office in 1984. The boss organized a woman from the Apple retailer to give me a lesson in how to operate the damn thing but she confused - and frightened - me even more than I was already. So I went back to the IMB Golf Ball typewriter, and stayed with it till one day, when no one was looking, I had a bit of a fiddle with the Mac and managed to figure out how to use it. I've never looked back.

Glad you enjoyed the video, Bill. I did a DVD copy for Stan. He'll be thrilled, and will no doubt show it to his grandkids. I've just had Billeeeeeee and Jules visit and we chatted for ages. More about that in my next post on the GN forum coming up soon! Not a bad bream, mate. Gotta watch that flash (or bright sun) bouncing off the scales though.
