 Some have indicated they would still like a pub meal, suggest a lunch to avoid roos at night etc, I need to let the pub know (Cuballing Hotel 15 kms from the CP) the numbers coming and also the types of meals required the day before, see menu below;

Due to the confusion of where, when and how, we are now heading for Wagin to hopefully, maybe, possibly catch up with Dunmowinn. We will leave Albany on the 27th, possibly get to Wagin on Wednesday, leave there Thursday and be at the Lazeaway Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday night. Will need to leave on Sunday to be back in Albany Monday. We'll have a meal at the pub anytime even night as long as the native wildlife understand that I am a truck driver. I don't slow down, I don't swerve, I don't stop. Don't get in my way.

Sounds good to me Bob, hold the fort until the rest of us get there, we can sort out who wants a meal at the pub or not when we get there.

Glad you can make it.

Looking forward to the break of scrolling through the forum to find the latest news. At a rough count there are 6 different postings. Good fun looking for the latest. We have to convince the CP owners that this is an annual event. Every great journey starts with a single step.

Unfortunately we got screwed around with Yornaning Bob not being a free camp, whereas camping publications (including Camps 7) and google threads says it was.   I think most wanted a free camp if possible for an annual event perhaps Pumphreys Bridge in cooler weather, although it is pretty popular with lots of others and I believe some caravan clubs.   The CWA who look after the site (and hire the hall out if required) told me that we could also park around the oval if more level ground was required or the one near the river was full, both areas are about the same distance to the flush toilets (fed by gravity water tank).

If someone wants to organise one for later in the year or on an annual basis that is fine, we can talk about what members want at the GTG.

Extract of Jayco Gypsy's posts from discontinued thread;

Ok back on topic. I'll opt for Pumpries Bridge as it will be late Saturday or Sunday before I can get there and join you all for a visit depending on arrival in the area. Unfortunately my shift swap fell though so working Friday night shift. I'm not sure about the others yet.

Will be lots of chinwagging going on. I'll get there for my fair share under the gumtrees, just a little later than I'd hoped too.
Planning on grabbing a couple of caches on the way and want to check out Congelin Camp ground as well. (hope the link works)

I have just seen this GTG posted on another forum as a general meet up of caravanners, not a get together of The Grey Nomads forum, I have no objection to any GN who has joint membership of another forum (or friends) joining us however this GTG is for The Grey Nomads forum members to meet up and get to know each other and was not intended as a general GTG for any other forum.

Other forums can organise their own meet ups, they do not invite us to theirs.  If the other forum members want to join our forum as members they are most welcome to come along (as a few GN members already are).   I may add that the "other forum" has twice the membership of ours and I would not like to see the GTG dominated by members of the other forum who are not members of The Grey Nomads also.

I would like to say that The Grey Nomads member that posted on the other forum are very well respected and liked members of this forum as well and it will be great to see them at Popanyinning.

 Thanks for the info Rob, there is a view that as Cuby Council are not RV friendly that perhaps we should not give the local businesses our patronage, however I don't see why we should make the pub suffer, not their decision that I know of.

Pingelly is roughly the same distance from Lazeaway that I can see on the map, not sure what their pub food is like though.  Will see what everyone wants to do when we get there, not a lot of time there for most so some may be happy with just a happy hour.

The long range weather forecast for the general area was possibly rain on Friday, fine Saturday and Sunday, temps in the very low 30's, so may be pleasant outside for a change, but that can change between now and then.

This link was kindly provided by Wombat, it lists Cuballing and Pingelly, but not Popanyinning that I can see unless it has a search option I've missed;   http://www.weatherinau.com/Western_Australia/

This one is different again; http://www.weatherzone.com.au/wa/great-southern/popanyinning

And this one;  http://www.eldersweather.com.au/wa/great-southern/popanyinning

And;  http://www.friendlyforecast.com/AU/weather.php?country=AU&id=3106

And; http://www.yr.no/place/Australia/Western%20Australia/East%20Popanyinning/long.html

Hmmmm.......better get the darts out, most seem to be roughly the same, have to ask Judy at Lazeaway when we get there, being farmers in the area they would know hopefully with whatever site they use etc.

Hi Vic,

On the way down on Thurs I'll see if I can get a copy of the menu/prices from the Pingelly pub for those that might want to go there for a meal. I need to stop there anyway, there's an Opp Shop in town I want to look in, also an IGA for last minute/forgotten stuff.

Weather-wise, it's out of everyone's control, just have to put up with it. We are made of sterner stuff.

PS.

For those that are going, bring your thinking caps. As a newbie I have a lot of questions.

Thanks for that, one of my daughters had a mini stroke (TIA) last Tueday had to be taken to hospital in an ambulance.  I picked her up today and hopefully with the meds they gave her she may be ok, doesn't seem to have left any permanent after effects, they also found she had plaque in one of her carotid artery's.   All going well we should still be able to go to Popa!  biggrin

Regards having a pub meal, info Rob,

If GN's attending wish to have a pub meal, we could possibly look at the Exhange Hotel In Pingelly, Rob is going to check things out in Pingelly on the way through on Thursday and see if he can get a menu etc.   Very helpful ladies in the info centre there.

The Exchange Tavern is in a side street, I think the Pingelly Pub in the main street may be closed down and one link on google show it is a private observatory....  This is the link for the Exchange Tavern, I have emailed them for a menu also.

 http://publocation.com.au/pubs/wa/pingelly/exchange-tavern

I saw this on the CMCA dump point website for Cuballing;

Cuballing Travel Stop (DP Free)

WA Ridley Street, Cuballing WA 78 J9 82 E5 -32.81995 117.18017

Cost $0 CMCA/KEA Subsidy, Self contained vehicles only

Time Limit 72hr

 ( I assume that if you are self contained you can stop there for 3 days/nights?)

Pub lunch somewhere to be discussed with those attending Popanyinning, however how many will not be able to attend a pub lunch because of their pets, being "family" I can understand how some may be reluctant to leave them in the care of others to attend.

Suggest we discuss this at Popanyinning, but as we only have limited time there would it be better just to have a group lunch time BBQ on one of the days?  That way we will all be together.  Have a think about it in the meantime and see what we can come up with down/up there.

 However, I asked the Cuballing Council CEO for clarification and this is her reply, I also asked them to advise CMCA;

"It is not OK to park at the dump point without permission from the shire as it is not a designated rest point.

The Caravan and Camping regulations clearly state the following.  These are not our rules but regulations under legislation with which we must comply.

11.          Camping other than at a caravan park or camping ground

(1)     A person may camp

                  (a)     for up to 3 nights in any period of 28 consecutive days on land which he or she owns or has a legal right to occupy, and may camp for longer than 3 nights on such land if he or she has written approval under subregulation (2) and is complying with that approval;

                  (b)     for up to 24 consecutive hours in a caravan or other vehicle on a road side rest area;

                  (c)     for up to 24 consecutive hours in a caravan or other vehicle on a road reserve in an emergency, unless to do so would cause a hazard to other road users or contravene any other written law with respect to the use of the road reserve;

                  (d)     on any land which is

                               (i)     held by a State instrumentality in freehold or leasehold; or

                              (ii)     dedicated, reserved, or set apart under the Land Administration Act 1997 or any other written law, and placed under the care, control or management of a State instrumentality,

                           in accordance with the permission of that instrumentality; or

                  (e)     on any unallocated Crown land or unmanaged reserve, in accordance with the permission of the Minister within the meaning of the Land Administration Act 1997, or a person authorised by the Minister to give permission under this paragraph.

      (2)     Written approval may be given for a person to camp on land referred to in subregulation (1)(a) for a period specified in the approval which is longer than 3 nights

                  (a)     by the local government of the district where the land is situated, if such approval will not result in the land being camped on for longer than 3 months in any period of 12 months;

                  (b)     by the Minister, if such approval will result in the land being camped on for longer than 3 months in any period of 12 months; or

                  (c)     despite paragraph (b), by the local government of the district where the land is situated

                               (i)     if such approval will not result in the land being camped on for longer than 12 consecutive months; and

                              (ii)     if the person owns or has a legal right to occupy the land and is to camp in a caravan on the land while a building licence issued to that person in respect of the land is in force.

      (3)     In this regulation

               building licence means a building licence under section 374 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1960;

               emergency means a situation where to move the caravan or other vehicle to a more suitable area would constitute an immediate and serious hazard due to the condition of the caravan or other vehicle, or a vehicle towing the caravan, or of the driver, or passengers, of any such vehicle;

               road side rest area means an area designated by a traffic sign erected in accordance with a written law, as an area which may be used for 24 hours for

                  (a)     resting;

                  (b)     stopping; or

                  (c)     camping,

               in a vehicle;

               State instrumentality has the same meaning as it has for the purposes of the Land Administration Act 1997;

               unallocated Crown land has the same meaning as it has for the purposes of the Land Administration Act 1997;

               unmanaged reserve has the same meaning as it has for the purposes of the Land Administration Act 1997.

               [Regulation 11 amended in Gazette 16 Jul 1999 p. 32024; 25 Aug 2000 p. 4911.]

I am sorry if this appears to be obstructive, however we have to comply with legislation."

Having lived in Munglinup for over 5 weeks with incessant winds all day and all night. Had relief in Esperance and just gentle zephyrs in Albany. We are currently in Wagin which would nearly rival AMunglinup for wind. If it is windy, would love to come to a BBQ but someone else can cook. We will provide a salad of some sort. Otherwise whatever is going on, we will oblige.

The C/P has a gas BBQ Bob, I can't recall seeing it but the lady there said it is near the ablution block.  Kind offer doing the salads, we can all put in for it.   I won't be doing the BBQ either, being a semi vege (don't consume meats).

The place is a cereal crop farm, they do keep a few pet animals there, once they had a very large pig, which I understand was bought there as a feral when it's mother was killed.   I saw someone leaning on the timber fence looking at the pig, which had "Pat The Pig" written on the fence railing and as I approached, this person moved away from the fence and I saw "Don't" in front of "Pat the Pig".  The writing can still be seen on the railing.

His real name was Arnold (as in Green Acres) but unfortunately he died.  There is a replacement pig there now.
