Music is the language of the soul, everyone can do it, all it takes is to find the instrument that fits you, then get into it and experience the creative side of your soul.
Native pepper, Agree with your post totally, but love this part particulary.
Thank you, music is such an enjoyable expression, remember when learning, used to carry a guitar everywhere and annoyed hell out of those with experience to show me things. The ones that were happy to, were working muso's, now understand why. Especially when I come across older people learning to play, didn't pick up an instrument until in my 30's and had to learn to play whilst performing, an extreme learning curve. Now can fake my way through just about anything and make it acceptable. Our drummer is in her 60's and didn't pick up the drums until her late 50's, so there is time for everyone and we need a bass player.
The greatest joy I get out of music is entertaining, to see people having a great time, dancing, singing along, really happy, bar staff bopping along and so appreciate of what you've given them, is unsurpassed in my experience. Even if you're not the greatest band, if you entertain them, that's all that matters.
Arriving at a small town in the middle of nowhere, houses and shop closed, just pub and maybe a store. Most would think there is nothing on offer, but quiet. Then you walk into the place and it's packed out, set up and the town comes to life for a few hours. Afterwards you have a great social time and meet lots of interesting and extraordinary people. You get lots of invitations and many times the next day or so, we end up on some property jamming along and partying hard. Sometime we spend more time visiting people around the area, than being in the town playing
.. not being able to master any musical instrument, I happily enjoy singing .. and regardless of whether one can hold a tune or not, if you see someone singing then they gotta be happy ..
Just can't sing when I'm not happy .. music has many moods .. I enjoy the variation .. it's just part of my life !
I just started playing a bodhran about a month ago but can't get up to the speeds I see on the videos yet but practice makes perfect.
Here in Grafton a few of us get together once a week or fortnight in the back room of a pub or wherever and play irish folk together though some of them are about at my level others aren't too bad. One guy brings his celtic harp plus there are also people with ukuleles penny flutes, tambourines etc depending who turns up on the day. Though I went a couple of times last year I have not yet played the Bodhran there but for our first meetup early Feb I'll be taking it along.
I also dabble with a blues harp(harmonica) but not very good.
