What is a Nomad?

From wikipedia;

A nomad is a person with no settled home, who moves from place to place as a way of obtaining food, finding pasture for livestock, or otherwise making a living. The word nomad comes from a Greek word that means one who wanders for pasture. Most nomadic groups follow a fixed annual or seasonal pattern of movements and settlements. Nomadic peoples traditionally travel by animal or canoe or on foot. Today, some nomads travel by motor vehicle. Most nomads live in tents or other portable shelters.

Onya Arthur. Wikipedia doesn't tell you that to be a nomad as we are you need an inexhaustible supply of money, very little in the way of clothing, plenty of refrigeration to make Happy Hour really, really happy, and lots of fellow Nomads to share friendships with.

How do you do that Val? I have far too many clothes but don't want to discard any.
Need different types for different situations. Never know when the weather may turn.

On this forum somewhere I remember awoman say she could run with 4 changes of clothes. I don't think I could go that low. I need 1 rain/cold weather jacket. 1 lighter jacket. 1 cardigan 2 jumpers 3 shorts, 2 long pants 6 t shirts 2 singlets 1 sleeveless jacket. 1 good trousers 1 light dress. 1 good black jacket. 1 blouse. Then there's underwear, p.j.s socks, shoes. Do you think that's alot Marj? I had heaps more last time we went out. Didn't use most of it. Bought a few more t shirts shopping too which was ridiculous.

I have been dropping off at op shops as I grow out of mine.  For some reason, a lot of my clothes have shrunk!

Marj, that's something like I had in the van. Got to leave some behind. I had half a wardrobe and 2 compartments under the bed stuffed with my clothes. Then would buy more if I found something I liked. I need space to fit in some of my toys. Ps never thought of offloading some at markets. Cheers

I reckon a Nomad is a state of mind we can choose to enter at any age, and you don't have to be Grey. We're not running away, we choose to go away, and we can also choose to maintain contact by answering mobiles or emails, or be out of reach....wearing what you like, and doing things at your own pace and not someone else's....hard for people, not of your choosing to drop in and 'surprise' you.......We're gregarious but only to the extent we choose to be... many of us have been so regimented by the system, jobs, family commitments through our years that some, and only some, the lucky ones I reckon..see the light, and choose to seek almost a diametrically opposite lifestyle....while we still enjoy the relative good health and ability to be able to.....money plays a very small part IMO....I've seen folk struggle to live on $80,000 a year and I've seen folk who can easily get by on much less than half that....
Its about attitude and choice, to be a Nomad..but its not for everyone..thank goodness!......enjoy being a Madno..er I mean.. Nomad as long as we can....its all in our mind, so beware anyone who tampers with it......look at the varied posts, look at the things that concern us,...look at the things that make us laugh.....stay at home you cry with fewer laughs these days....
I'm a Nomad and suspect I have been since birth its only circumstances that allow some of us to make the choice...nay dare... to be happy.....Hoo Roo

I dropped off a bag full at an op shop in one of the towns I passed through last week. Good to have a clean out once in a while. If I find something I especially like and buy, I will sort out some to take to op shop.
Also forgot, a box full of shoes, many I haven't worn. Threw a few of those out too.

Dunmowin, do you really believe your clothes have shrunk. ? biggrin

Our problem is when we drop off a bag of clothes to an Op Shop it is only an excuse to buy more..
We never come out empty handed..

Will take me a long while to run out. I tend to buy more at diffent times, whether it be an op-shop, or a sale. I do like to send some off to the op-shop when I buy so the piles don't get too high.
