Movie - The Railway Man - Colin Firth & Nicole Kidman

Saw this recently, top movie and great Oscar winning performance by Colin Firth IMHO.   Nicole was ok too but hers was only a support role so could not be compared.  The Japanese actor was good too.   See;

PS:  Could be upsetting for some who may have been POW's in that period or their relatives.

Saw it last week and although it deals with a heavy subject matter it is an outstanding movie based on a trus life event.

Yes, it was great they even used the name of the person this happened to in the film (Lomax).

If anyone sees this, wait for the credits at the end of the movie, it shows a photo of the real Lomax and the Japanese main character in their old age.

I saw Philomena and August - Osage County last week and today saw The Book Thief.  The Railway man and Saving Mr Banks are next on my list to see.

What did you think of Osage County and The Book Thief Judy ?

I want to see that one with the Robyn Davidson and the camels crossing a desert in Australia too when it comes out.

 I liked them both, though they were very different, Osage county was very raw emotions from a very dysfunctional family and lots of repressed and hidden stories evolved as the movie went on. I think Meryl Streep was brilliant as she has to play an amazing and emotional role. The book thief was set in Germany throughout the war and was sad, but some warm and touching moments. This old girl teared up a couple of times. Both worth seeing..smilesmilesmile

The Aussie one sounds good will keep and eye out for it, thanks for the links.

I haven't seen that one yet Judy, saw August: Osage County and also Walter Mitty (message there for intending GN's , don't dream about it do it!).  Haven't seen The Book Thief yet.   Walter Mitty was better than I thought it would be, magnificent scenery, also had Sean Penn and Shirley McLaine in it.

 That is on my list but not sure about it, I like both Sean Penn and Shirley so that will be the draw card for me.  If i survive today and tomorrow at 44c then maybe over the weekend to recover could be a plan....Thanks

"Mandella" is coming soon too, I want to see that.  Movies are a good retreat for the heat, the worst part is coming out to the heat and hot car when you leave, but no different from going to a shopping centre.
