Howdy Milo,

We have always had a porta loo in our caravans, The Boss would not do with-out one,

There are many different types and sizes on the market, I think we would have tried them all over the years,

I would suggest that you go for one with a 20lt holding tank, it's surprising how quickly they fill up,

also there some different types of flush pumps on them as well,

there are the plunger type which in my opinion only flush a very small amount of water and at times require several pushes to do a good job,

then there the type that are exactly the same as a caravan water tap, a double action pull and push type,

we prefer this type any day,, a far better water flow and therefore more hygienic.

Dumping them can be a problem if there is no dump point near by,

we carry a spade with us and dig a hole a good half metre deep and well away from any water sauce that is if bush camping,

we have very rarely had to dig a hole as you get a pretty good idea when the holding tank is getting near full,

so we then look for the nearest R.V. Friendly Town where there will be a dump point with a flush water tap available.

As far as price of a Porta Loo goes, we have never bought a new one yet from a shop,

if you keep a eye on the GUMTREE website, they are always coming up, our last one was purchased off there for $40

it was brand new in an un-opened box, a lot cheaper that store prices.

Happy sitting,       kiwijims

A little pop-top tent is handy to put the porta-potti in when you are stopped for a while. I'm not happy using a dunny inside the van.

We bought this last week and it arrived yesterday and we are very happy with it.. took a while to learn how to fold the tent but once we got it right it is easy..

We got the 10l one because of it's height and where we wanted to store it while traveling..

They are also available as a kit with the 20l loo

Same as us Gerty, as well as a separate shower stall. We tried 2 types of stall, one you needed to be a contortionist to fold the other easy, Oz tent brand I think. The 20L holding tanks are good but get a bit heavy if let get completely full.

There are a number of videos on how to fold them if you google "folding a shower tent", this is the BCF one;

Looks good Bob, takes a female to show us how, LOL ! smile

I watched one GN get that frustrated with his trying to fold his he ended up (accidently) breaking it, I thought he was practicing a new version of martial arts.......no names no pack drill, LOL !  Needless to say it went in the bin, although someone claimed it.

PS:  Comment on your email addy (other post) noted, I thought that may be the case, too many trolls around....

Vic, Even with the website where to send me an email they have to fill out the form and then type in the numbers in the box I still get 4 or 5 a day from scammers.
and the other one "bob@graftoncountrymusic.com.au" gets even more...
They all go in the junk file and get deleted weekly..lol..

You would have had a really good laugh yesterday if you would have seen Jenny and I trying to fold that pop up the wrong way... we would watch the vidoe and have a go then watch it again and have another go ..lol.
In the end I found the other video and that made it easy..

Edit... Interesting that email addy made itself clickable..lol

Looks like a good purchase.
Thanks for the "how to" video.
I cannot get ours folded properly.
Think it may be the chinglish instructions - may just be me too.
I'll be having another look & give it a go.
Cheers

I bought an expensive Fiamma Bipot over 20 years ago and it's great still. If I were to buy another I would prefer one with the longer spout on the top for emptying rather than the big lid on the bottom tank. I've tried every conceivable type of potti except the collapsible in the previous post.

It would be just my luck for it to collapsed with me sitting on it.
